Yeah, I see no reason why this would be a hard reboot. Just take the formation of the squad from last time so you don't have to spend time on reexplaining the concept and just add new characters. Seems like two squads as well. I know not everyone will have time to shine but I hope we at least get more from everyone than ropeman got last time.

Those are some deep cuts, too. I mean Mongal? We haven't even heard of Mongul yet. So awesome.

The first movie was a shit sandwich. This already looks more interesting and I trust Gunn. The Guardians flicks are the only MCU movies I truly love.

Yeah, both Guardians movies are greatly helped by being almost completely separated from the "main" Marvel characters due to being cosmic heroes doing their own thing. Same with Suicide Squad, it doesn't even seem like we'll need to rehash Harley/Joker again so this is like a completely separate sandbox with (besides Harley) niche characters that can (and probably will) bite it at any time. Exactly like Ostrander's Suicide Squad.

I'd love to see him on like a Secret Six movie too, though I guess he's headed back to Marvel for good after this? Or can he do both long term?

Oh man, I'd die for a Secret Six movie, especially if Gunn was in charge.

My ideal line-up: Catman, Deadshot, Ragdoll, Scandal Savage, Jeanette, and Bane. That was my favorite iteration of the team.

Re: The Suicide Squad (2021, W/D: James Gunn) -- News, rumors, etc.

Articles are all calling it a prequel series. James Gunn is writing all the episodes, and directing some.

John Cena, James Gunn Tackling 'Peacemaker' Series for HBO Max, DC

The announcement of the prequel series spinoff comes 11 months before 'The Suicide Squad' comes out. The Suicide Squad isn’t due out until August 2021, but it’s already getting a prequel series spinoff.

James Gunn, the writer-director behind the movie, is reteaming with actor John Cena for Peacemaker, an action-adventure-comedy series for HBO Max.

HBO Max has given a straight-to-series order for an eight-episode first season with Gunn writing all eight episodes and directing several, including the first. Cena will reprise his role from the upcoming movie for what will explore the origins of the character.

Gunn is one of my favorite filmmakers. I hate Cena with a passion, but I reckon I’ll have to watch this.

I hate it when "Hollywood" tries to make someone in to a Star, no one is longing for. Orlando Bloom, Sam Worthington, Taylor Kitsch*, Liam Hemsworth, Jai Courtney and others. Jai Courtney is one of the worst, but I am totally with you. Captain Boomerang was one of the few highlights in Suicide Squad.

*I actually hoped we would become a star. I've liked him pretty much in everything he's been in.

Sylvester Stallone has joined the cast.

Sylvester Stallone Confirms Suicide Squad Casting

Sylvester Stallone has taken part in several franchises, including the Marvel Universe thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but now he's jumping over to the DC side of things. Stallone revealed on his Instagram that he has a part in James Gunn's upcoming The Suicide Squad, though we don't know what part he will be playing yet. He revealed the role on Instagram with the caption "No rest for the weary but what I do is so enjoyable I don’t even call at work it’s a gift."

You can check out Stallone's full video and reveal of his part in the upcoming film below.

Cool that Sly has a part. It's probably small though. The movie already wrapped principal photography. So this is probably just a short appearance in the reshoots.

In terms of being a good movie? Very well. In terms of being a box office success? Less so. Although, that was a parody of comic book superhero movies back before there were dozens released per year. In some ways, it was ahead of its time.

However, a lot of filmmaking, including costumes, is dependent on how it's shot. Those set photos, especially the brightly lit top one, may not accurately convey how they'll look in the actual movie.

Maybe he's playing his Expendables character.

that’s certainly all true. And you’re right it was ahead of time.

Synopsis:
Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Bell Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out — even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today's do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin, and everyone's favorite pyscho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.
