Re: Favorite “non-showy" actors?

Meryl Streep
Cate Blanchett
Laura Linney

Leonardo DiCaprio
Daniel Day-Lewis
Matt Damon

These are actors who just act. Sure they will do press and red carpets for their movies and show up at the Oscars when they're nominated, but that's it. You won't see them attending the opening of an envelope or famewhoring it up. Their private lives are just that -- private. Dicaprio in particular must have a phenomenal team of people working for him as he is a notorious partier but keeps it all zipped up to the press.

Kurt Russell seems like a regular guy who could be your neighbor. Lives out the public eye and just shows up to work.

Couple of deceased ones. Charles Bronson and Robert Mitchum.

Same as Tucci, no matter what Strong is always good in his roles. And both seem to not be widely known and acknowledged by the general public and aren't in the Pop News all the time.

Kurt Russell is not a great actor.

John Turturro, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Daniels, Richard Jenkins, and Mark Ruffalo, are some names though Dafoe and Daniels have done talk shows and podcasts.

Ruffalo was on Fallon last week but he is not in the spotlight 24/7.

^ I don’t know. If we’re talking “great” actors I don’t think Ruffalo should be in the conversation. The dude rivals Mark Wahlberg for always looking confused throughout his movies.

He was good in Infinately Polar Bear, The Normal Heart, and mostly everything though maybe he mails it in for the Avengers movies.

No way is he in Wahlberg or Channing Tatum territory of mediocre or bad actors.

John Goodman would be my first pick. Tremendous actor with an impressive resume, yet seems really down to earth, guy next door. The kind of actor that you could catch shopping in the local supermarket. I'm also partial to Margo Martindale as she's from East Texas like me.

Re: Favorite “non-showy" actors?

Not entirely sure what the thread is about but I'll throw my hat in the ring:

Guy Pearce

Seems to be great in everything he does. He also seems to actively avoid the spotlight, and never takes roles you'd expect him to.

Yeah I've heard a lot of stories about how he's an all around nice guy and does normal things.

No way can you compare Ruffalo to Wahlberg.

One guy has talent and can act and you know who that is.
