Favorite “non-showy" actors?
And when I say that, I mean great actors or actresses that don’t show up in the public eye too much. Just down to earth, do great jobs acting and call it a day. Sure, they’ll do talk show appearances here and there, but the ones out of limelight that are just superb in everything they do.
My pick: Josh Brolin
I have liked him in just about everything he’s done, mostly due to his Hollywood resurrection and showing up and doing great in every movie he’s in now. And he was a Goonie! Now, Oscar nominated. Great stuff everytime and watching Sicario 2 now, Deadpool 2, W., and of course No Country just cements that.

Brolin is ok but but for the most part with the exception of W I would not consider a great actor.
My pick Steve Buscemi

"Actor" may be a stretch but I'd say Keanu Reeves. he's always on time to readings and shoots, knows his lines, doesn't get confrontational, eats with the working class and is an all around nice guy.

I get the “A-list” part. I’m not 100% on the “non-showy” part. But let’s be honest, we’re all just going to post our favorite actors anyway.

You think W is the one role where Brolin really shined? W?

This thread makes me confused as to what in the hell an A-list actor is.
I thought it meant a star's bankability.
That's why the title "non showy A-list" makes no sense. A-list actors by definition are always keeping their brand alive and are out their promoting.

A list actors get 100% or greater billing. All marketing has their name equal to or greater than the film's title. If an actor can't demand that, they're not A list.

Basically. An A-list star is someone who is incredibly bankable with their name, and can command a big salary because the public is likely to go see a movie with their name attached. Typically an actor who is A-list is so well known that the movie title becomes secondary in their eyes It's "I want to see the new Dwayne Johnson movie" not "I want to see Skyscraper". They also can be such big draws that their name is always expected to draw fans even if the movie is not something their fans are used to, or if they do something that made them big before.

Stanley Tucci ![Up](/images/smilies/thumpsup.gif)
Even if he's in a movie that sucks...HE is never the reason why the movie sucked.

Well, from the criteria given by the OP, it seems that Daniel Day-Lewis would qualify. He doesn't do interviews very often and certainly stays out of the limelight in his years between films - even to the point of "retiring" (I don't believe he is done yet).

^ Yeah, but the OP doesn't really know what "Showy" acting is. It's defined as flashy or the opposite of subtle. As magnificent as DDL (or Sean Penn for that matter) is as an actor, he is often the opposite of subtle (certainly in Gangs of New York, There Will Be Blood and Lincoln). Not at all a swipe at him, just a different sort of acting. If you include DDL or Sean Penn, then throw the qualifier out.

A guy I would choose Peter Sarsgaard.
With the exception of maybe one SNL hosting gig in 2006 or 2005 you don't see him a lot doing PR.
