While I didn’t think this was a waste of time, it definitely wasn’t as good as 1&2. It’d definitely better than all the spin offs though.

I liked it more than I thought I would. The trailers didn't look that great and James Wan not directing didn't give me much faith, but it was better than I expected, although not as good as the first two movies.

Agree with everything you said here. The first one was good, but not scary at all. The sequel was though. And a better film overall IMO. I'd rate all the series:
"The Conjuring" 8/10
"The Conjuring 2" 8.5/10
"The Conjuring 3: 6/10

Decent enough third entry that gets a little goofy at the end but I liked it, though not quite as good as the first two. I'd say Michael Chaves did a fine job directing utilizing some of the tricks James Wan did in the previous entries (like a one-shot scene going through the house early on). But like the others, the biggest plus is with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga who were again wonderful together. ***½/*****

This was a huge disappointment for me - even more so as I thought Wan directed it - I'm a big fan of his so I was relieved that he didn't but he was still involved and got it made. I hope they stop here is this is what all future films will be like.

I caught this last week on HBO Max. I don't think it's a massive disappointment like some of you thought it was. Farmiga and Wilson were still solid as the Warrens and the special effects were pretty good. I just didn't think it was that scary. I consider Annabelle Comes Home The Conjuring 2.5 since the Warrens had an extended role in that movie.

I'd probably give it a 7 out of 10.

If they do a 4th part, I'd like to see the Warrens working in the late 80s or even early 90s.

Kind of sad that pretty much everyone didn’t think it was scary, yet this is the first Rated R one. They could have done so much more with it.

I just watched The Conjuring 2 again. It’s so good! I barely remembered it. Between this and Insidious I got them jumbled up.

The first two movies were also rated R.

Not only that but literally every other movie in the “Conjuring Universe” is rated ‘R’ as well. So obviously he meant that this is the first ‘R’ rated one since the last seven ‘R’ rated ones.

I was watching The Conjuring 2 and thought, “ooo the violence is stark for PG13” when she was at the Amityville house. It’s pretty lightweight for R. Violence isn’t everything. Hearing the old man talking in the dark got my blood pressure up more than most gore.

I quite like the Annabelle origins movie. Didn’t see The Nun or Annabelle 2 yet.

Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)

Finally got a chance to watch this film earlier today.

As already mentioned, Patrick Wilson & Vera Farmiga are great (again), quite literally holding the entire film together.

I'm in the minority but I really enjoyed the approach this film took, leaning more into mystery rather than the haunted house approach the rest of the series leaned heavily on. Considering the history of this case, I would have been perfectly fine if this film had even leaned into the True Crime genre a bit more.

With that said, I thought the final act of the film was a letdown considering everything before it, as it wraps everything up with too many silly conveniences & explanations (even for a film like this).

Glad I’m not the only one. I really enjoyed this. I thought it was on par with the first 2 and better than all the spin offs.
