Men at Work (1990, Directed by Emilio Estevez)

I watched this last night. Itís not a bad movie, but it does have a bad ending. Itís full of laughs, but it actually takes its plot seriously and thus gets needlessly bogged down in its own plot rather than just being funny.

The best bits are when theyíre just being garbage men and hanging out. Keith David is outrageously off the wall. I like him in anything.

Most of all this is a film that captures a time and a place with perfection. I grew up in Long Beach, not far from Redondo Beach where Men at Work was filmed, end everything is just spot on. The look of the streets and alleys. The way they dead end into the sand. The music. The mention of KROQ and the voice of Poorman. Poorman was one of the original hosts of Loveline when it was only in LA. In the movie itís changed to ďOpenlineĒ for some reason. The then new phenomenon of cops on mountain bikes.

I feel about Men at Work the way that people who lived in New York in the Ď70s feel about Taxi Driver and Annie Hall. The film captures the essence of its era with perfection.

Its one of my favorite forgotten comedies of all time. I quote it way too much and it deserves a bigger cult following.

Yes it does. I still remember going to see it at the theater. I loved it.

I love this movie, plain and simple. It’s not the greatest or funniest, but seeing them just be silly combined with the supporting cast is just something I really enjoy watching. Bring on the 4K remaster.

Or maybe just a decent blu ray of this, not that dumb double feature version.

Since Shout Factory has started to rerelease some of their titles, Men at Work deserves the Collector's Edition treatment from them.

Back in Fubai, he would have been killed the second he knocked on that door. I would have snapped his neck like a twig. And he never would have seen it coming, either.

This is one of those movies that played on HBO non-stop in the early 90s. My brother and I would watch it every time it was one during the summer.

I love this movie and Keith David is great in it.

A cast commentary track would be great for a new release.

Ditto to everything you said. Haven't watched this in years, but watched it numerous times on HBO with my brother back in the 90s.

Indeed that is where I saw it. I’d never seen it in its proper aspect ratio.

It’s free to watch right now on Vudu if anyone here doesn’t have the dvd or Blu-ray.

I saw this again maybe last year and maybe I liked it back in 1990 but watching it again it sucks.

I bought the blu-ray since it was a Easy Money/Men at Work combo and I wanted Easy Money.

Oh my, I actually watched this last weekend on Prime in an afternoon 80's 90's flashback wanting to movie watch. Pretty sure I watched it before and was not impressed either time.
