RIP: Margot Kidder
Margot Kidder, the actress who played Lois Lane in "Superman," died Sunday in Montana ... TMZ has learned.
Margot was at her home when she passed away, according to the spokesperson at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston, MT. The cause of death is unknown at this point.
Margot starred opposite Christopher Reeve in 1978's "Superman," and also in the 3 sequels. She continued acting right up until this year, taking small roles in TV shows and movies -- but also had stage roles ... including "The Vagina Monologues" on Broadway. She reportedly had 2 more roles yet to be released.

Her frazzled but still on the ball portrayal of Lois Lane has affected my view of that character since the late 70's, I will always enjoy her performance in the Superman films.

Damn, that sucks. Margot was a great Lois.

Yeah, really liked her as Lois. And loved her in Sisters. I was having her sign a DVD cover of that movie and she ranted that they still owed her money.

My favorite Lois Lane. I fell in love with her at 8 years old when I saw Superman in theaters in 1979. Her, Reeve, that entire movie made me forget all about Star Wars.
And at age 12 when I saw her sex scenes in "Some Kind of Hero" (especially when she was giving Richard Pryor a blowjob in the bathtub), I discovered masturbation soon afterward.

And while we're at it, this is the most brilliant epic scene in any superhero movie and I will fight anyone on this.
There's no way -- NO WAY -- this should have worked as wonderfully as it did. But 40 years later it still send a chill down my spine. Reeve and Kidder nailed it.

She was supposed to be appearing near me at the Motor City Comic Con this weekend. I wasn't going to pay $45 for a photo op with her, but I wonder how many pre-sold refunds will have to be issued.

Aww man. RIP.
I met her at a con 5 years ago. She had a portfolio of pics you could purchase and get signed. Some were full nude, complete with 70s bush. I was not expecting to see that, much less with her sitting right there

One of the loveliest actresses of the 70s. I appreciated how much of a straight shooter she was in calling out behind the scenes bullshit (like when Donner was replaced with Lester).
I also met her briefly at a local con about five years ago and she could not have been any cooler to talk with. Despite her past mental health struggles, she seemed very together and had a razor sharp wit. Very sad to read of her passing.

Kidder and Reeve had perfect chemistry for those movies. She could pull off the likeable/take charge Lois Lane, and he could pull off the awkward/charming Clark Kent.

That is, without question, the most iconic Super Hero (not just Superman) scene ever filmed. Everything about it is perfect, from the photography direction, to the music, to the reaction of the crowd, to the dialogue between Supes and Lois. And a large part of what makes it work is her delivery of the classic line, 'You've got ME? WHO's GOT YOU??"

The way Kidder delivers the line, "Who... ARE you?" And the way Reeves sells the line "A friend", then turns, smiles with absolute warmth and confidence, and takes off into the sky.
Nowadays they'd fill that scene with snark and self-awareness and glibness, but aside from the "Say Jim, that's one bad outfit, whoo!" (which I still love), this is played straight.

This one makes me sad. Nobody will ever be a better Lois Lane.
Without the easy realism Reeve and Margot Kidder brought to “Superman,” it’s hard to imagine the Marvel movies would rule the world today. For like 10-15 years of my childhood; those first 2 Reeve movies were it - the only example a comic book movie could tell great stories that moved everyone. All else were failures like Howard the Duck, that awful live Spider-Man TV series etc. even Burton’s Batman, which I loved, was a colder, more abstract take on superheroes.
I guess my rambling is, now that both the “Superman” stars are gone... thank you, Chris and Margot. It’s to your immense credit that you could make it feel real. I believed you could fly.

RIP to Kidder. Despite her iconic presence in the Superman movies, she wasn't my favorite Lois. But I don't think Donner's Superman would have worked as well with a different actress.

Sad news. Had no idea MK had been married three times, or that she was briefly homeless in the '90's. She definitely had a difficult life.
As a kid who saw the original Superman I in an early TV broadcast & Superman II - III in the theater back in the day, she was definitely the definitive Lois Lane.
However, my favorite movie she starred in wass Brian De Palma's incredibly creepy Sisters (1973). Amazing film, and Kidder was fantastic in this. Definitely her best role. Ironic that this is my favorite movie of hers, since I didn't see it until the 200X's - long after seeing the Superman films.
