Blackhawk (D: Spielberg)
Steven Spielberg Joins DC Universe With ‘Blackhawk’ Movie
https://www.thewrap.com/steven-spielberg-dc-blackhawk/
Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment are again teaming up with Warner Bros. Pictures to produce the action adventure “Blackhawk,” based on the DC Comics series of the same name.
Spielberg also has an eye on directing the movie, Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich said in a Tuesday announcement.
The move comes on the heels of “Ready Player One,” also a Spielberg-Amblin-Warner Bros. collaboration, and marks the filmmaker’s first feature centered on DC characters.
Blackhawk is the leader of a small team of ace pilots who fight tyranny and oppression — including Axis powers as well as various supervillains –while operating from a hidden base known only as “Blackhawk Island.” The comic book debuted in 1941 and features team members from around the world, with Blackhawk himself generally portrayed as a Polish freedom fighter.
Blackhawk was created by comics legends Chuck Cuidera, Bob Powell and Will Eisner for Quality Comics. The characters and concepts were sold to DC after Quality ceased publications in 1956.
“We are so proud to be the studio behind Steven Spielberg’s latest hit, and are thrilled to be working with him again on this new action adventure,” said Emmerich on Tuesday. “We can’t wait to see what new ground he will break in introducing ‘Blackhawk’ to movie audiences worldwide.”

Not to be morbid, but how many more films does he have left? I wish he'd do some, I don't know, important pet projects that are deeply meaningful to him as opposed to Indy 5, an unnecessary West Side Story remake and a DCU project.

It's a perfect fit for Hollywood's most PC sensitive film director:

I’ve never even heard of the character. It’s Spielberg so it shouldn’t be too bad. This doesn’t seem like a typical DC property from what I’ve read about the character but more just one they’ve got the rights to. It’ll probably be fine on it’s own merits but I don’t think it’s really going to be representative of a typical DC film.

Spielbergs Mom died at age 97 and his Dad is still alive at 101 years old.
Steve is 71. I think its realistic that we could see him directing another 20 years.
Clint Eastwood and Jean Luc Godard are both around that age and still going strong.
I do wish he'd be dedicating his time to better projects though.

There was a Columbia serial which is on DVD from Mill Creek.
This was a favorite comic of Spielberg's. He has owned the movie rights since the early 1980s.

Yeah, that’s why I said it doesn’t seem representative of a typical DC film. So sure technically Spielberg is making a DC film but it’s not going to be tied to the DCEU or anything if it’s going by it’s comic roots. If anything it seems like something he’d be interested in making that happens to be based on a comic.

Apparently Said Taghmaoui's character from Wonder Woman was part of the Blackhawk Squadron, or at least based off a character from the comic.

The Blackhawks are firmly rooted in the DC Universe... so by its "comic roots", it should be part of the DCEU. That said, it doesn't mean everything has to tie in. It can do its own thing in the corner. In fact, all movies in a "connected universe" would be better off doing this.
