Doesn't work for me. I've watched too much Mr Rogers and too much Tom Hanks I think. There wasn't a moment I was watching it where I wasn't thinking "That's not Mr Rogers." Haven't seen any of the other recent Hanks bio pics but doubt I'd have the same issue. I've only seen Sully or Walt Disney in little clips here and there. Wasn't even a really big Mr Rogers kid but being of that era with only so much media you saw a lot of him and that's not Mr Rogers.

What is the plot of this movie? A jaded reporter does a profile of Fred Rogers and finds that he's a really nice man? That's not much of a story arc.

I had the pleasure of going to a lecture given by Mr Rogers as the keynote speaker for an annual AAP Conference in San Francisco in 1995 and it was one of the highlights of my life. The guy was really special and totally beloved. Of course, you would get that from the documentary last year if you didn't know it already. Not sure what this movie is hoping to achieve.

Man, I heard the theme song on the TV upstairs during a PBS bumper and I started crying. I pretty much melted down watching that trailer. He meant so much in my life.

Matthew Rhys plays a fictionalized version of Junod. As you said, it's about a cynical journalist who is assigned to cover Fred for his story and learns more about who he is and they eventually became good friends.

I think this route was a better idea than just doing a straight forward bio on Fred's life until he became Mr. Rogers. Maybe Fred's childhood and young adult years just aren't that interesting to make as a movie. Fred really made an impact on TV, society and children as "Mr. Rogers"

If anyone here still hasn't seen "Won't you be my Neighbor?" It's a must watch. It's still airing on HBO and can be watched on HBO Go, Now etc. It's an amazing film.

I was one of those kids who, by the time I was approaching my teens, thought Mr. Rogers was weird. I didn't think about him again for many years until I had kids of my own and started following the news and had access to the internet. It was then that I learned about how authentic Rogers was. His Senate testimony is so genuinely moving. His relationship with Officer Clemmons is inspiring. I know no better compliment than to say that he was truly a good man. The documentary is fantastic and I guess I have another movie to add to my "must see" list.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one. I don't know what it is but something about Mister Roger's Neighborhood brings me immediately to my childhood. There are a lot of things from my childhood that I still watch or enjoy to some degree but maybe it's the simplicity and sincerity of Mister Rogers that remains timeless. I'm really looking forward to this.

Yuck, it looks as cloying as one would expect from a Hanks vehicle. Watch the Mr. Rogers documentaries instead. There's the real deal. No need for a saccharine biopic.

Definitely don’t go in expecting a biopic though. That’s not what this is.
