It's by far the best of those nominees.

Debatable. But when it comes to recent horror films, Get Out is no better than The Babadook or It Follows. It's a solid horror film, but not a great movie worthy of Best Picture.

Surprised Wonder Woman didn't get something in one of the technical categories.

Kobe Bryant being an Oscar Nominee is kind of neat for me :p

He's up against Dunkirk, so I guess he'll be 0-14 now.

This could be his year.

Honestly I feel like Logan would have gotten some nominations if it weren’t a comic book film. The Academy seems to close off anything in a genre like that no matter how good or critically acclaimed. I think Heath Ledger was more of a special circumstance because of his death. Patrick Stewart deserved the Best Supporting Actor nomination just as much.

It was nominated for Adapted Screenplay.

I'm impressed to see Logan nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. I'm curious if there have been other Adapted Screenplay nominations for "superhero comic" movies.

To answer my own curiosity, the New York Times says a nomination in this category is, "a first for a superhero film."

I missed that. At least it’s something but it’s not really one of the talked about nominations. I think the big ones are Picture, Director, Actor/Actress, and Supporting Actor/Actress. Screenplay is still something but I don’t feel like it gets as much attention.

And it is nowhere deserving of any of those. If a genre film was going to get it, it would've been BR2049.

I think Stewart’s performance was worthy of a Best Supporting Actor nomination. Easily one of the best performances last year and probably of his career.

I actually think the Adapted Screenplay nomination is much more significant, in a way, than any of those other nominations would be, because it's a nomination that directly relates to the comic book medium. The material from which the screenplay was adapted is comic books. The comic book roots can be much more easily glossed over in those other categories.

AMC theaters will probably do their Best Picture Showcase again. That might help.

Absolute bullshit. One of the best films of the year that was nominated for damn near everything else that anyone cares about, and no directing nod. Laughable. :thmbsdwn:

 Director's branch!

Two first-timers nominated. Impressive.

Tickets go on sale the 25th.

https://www.amctheatres.com/2018-best-picture-showcase

Regal Cinemas did it last year for about half the price and for 10 days, but no announcement from them on whether or not they'll do it again this year.

Thankfully, there are only 2 more I would like to catch. Might just use (the card I'm not supposed to mention).

Just wait until they bring up all of Kobe's past indiscretions.

I guess I really need to make an effort to see "The Shape of Water." The trailers are impressive, but I had no idea that it was an oscar-worthy film. I'm looking forward to it.

Get Out was a surprise to me.

It kind of built up some steam during awards season. Maybe I should watch it again.

Not a single nod for Wonder Woman? Not even costume or technical? Very Interesting.
