Re: Rush Hour 4 -- S: Chan, Tucker -- News and Rumors
The RUSH HOUR films were fine for their era – well, the first two, imo – but honestly the three principals are well past their sell-by dates at this point. I can see why they’d compare the BAD BOYS franchise, but I do think there are factors that mitigate in that one’s favour (despite Will Smith’s real-life antics, and Martin Lawrence’s similar disappearing act in later years).

Ratner. Principals behind and in front of the camera.
That might be an awful lot of yelling for one movie.

Surprised about Ratner, but has enough time has gone by that no one remembers him for anything other than X-Men Last Stand? I'm sure those women will call him out again.

My guess is that people also remember him from Rush Hour? Otherwise why bother bringing him back? I'm all for giving people a second chance if they deserve it (no idea if he does), but he's like the walking definition of a mediocre director. I don't see the upside unless Chan and Tucker specifically wanted him.

As of right now, Chan and Tucker have not officially signed on. So we'll see.

I guess Paramount will buy the rights from New Line/WB?

Just let this franchise of deeply diminishing creative returns fucking die already. The amount of poison now swirling around this supposed fourth instalment of a one-note series all but guarantees it either won’t get made or will be a complete joke if it does. And rebooting it with a younger Black/Asian combo of nobody actors after three increasingly lazy movies and a failed TV series won’t bring back the “magic” that was only there for a brief moment when the first film came out.
Also worth noting: scumbag Ratner is a big pal of Bibi’s, and has largely been hiding out in Israel since he slithered over there a few years after the scandal.
So, yeah, great optics: probable pedo and authoritarian Trump, sex creep Ratner, reportedly Epstein-adjacent (and tax cheat!) Tucker, and willing CCP mouthpiece Chan. Billion-dollar box-office for sure.

Unless Jackie and Chris are willing to take massive pay cuts, this could easily be $100M alone plus back ends for their salaries alone.

^ That’s an interesting point. Frankly, neither of them are worth that kind of money based on their subsequent career trajectories but the franchise name all but guarantees they’d probably shoot for the moon in terms of paychecks. I seriously doubt the inevitably diminished boxoffice of a twenty-years-later movie essentially plagued with compromised participants would justify that kind of outlay. But I guess the entertainment ‘news’ cycle will keep it alive.

If Trump 'asked' the father of the guy that that now has controlling interest in Paramount and is about make a deal to also buy Warner Discovery, you bet your ass I would be asking for the moon to star in this. He's worth just shy of $250 billion. I'd want that upfront fuck you money, screw the back end participation deal. Pretty sure Tucker got a nice payday from the Riyadh Comedy Festival.
Mind you, even though I wouldn’t set foot in a theatre to watch something like this (I liked the first one, liked the second one less, and hated the third) made by people like those presently associating themselves with it for bald-faced political reasons, I can imagine plenty of fans who can’t let the franchise go contorting themselves to justify buying a ticket, but even that plus an inevitable surge in right-wing championing of the film and the ‘patriots’ behind it seems unlikely to lead to a box-office bonanza twenty years after the last one. But in that context, I’d love to see them break the bank making it only to have it fizzle at the box office due to the smell.

1) Comedy sequels suck.
2) Legacy sequels suck.
3) Legacy comedy sequels REALLY suck.
4) Trump makes this movie much less appealing even.
I'm out too.

Hard to tell if that's bleak irony or depressingly-probable prediction...

Definitely irony!
But who knows, maybe the totally stable global MAGA movement will earn it more revenue than the AVATAR movies because King Pedonnie demands it.
Yeeaah, no.

Personally I’m more interested in new takes on the buddy action comedy concept not two old has-beens exhuming a dead franchise to help a sex pest rehabilitate his career at the behest of a kindred spirit.
