Wheelman (2017) S: Frank Grillo -- Netflix

Frank Grillo (Kingdom, Captain America: Civil War) stars as the wheelman, a getaway driver thrust into a high stakes race-to-survive after a bank robbery goes terribly wrong. With a car full of money and his family on the line, the clock is ticking to figure out who double-crossed him and the only person he can trust... his thirteen-year-old daughter. All reasons to think fast and drive faster.

Wheelman, a Netflix Film, premieres October 20th.

Only 10 reviews on RT, but 9 are positive.

This is basically Locke crossed with Drive, it's a well done, low budget, Cinemax/HBO Friday Night style movie with a director that appeared to be trying his best (he mostly succeeds, lots of little visual touches for a movie that takes place almost entirely in a car). I like that Netflix took a chance with what appears to be a new director. Not that they had a lot to lose.

Agreed -- it was entertaining and Grillo and Joe Carnahan produced it, too.

The style reminded me a bit of Carnahan, didn't see his name in the credits, that's cool.

Just finished watching this and I enjoyed it. Small, ultra low budget action movie, but it worked.

Probably about 85% of the movie is Grillo driving and the action kept it moving. It's super short at roughly 82 minutes, so it's not a bad way to spend an evening or afternoon.

Netflix said that 50% of their content will be original movies and shows by next year. I'm betting we'll be seeing more of these kinds of low budget action movies in the future.

This felt like an extended version of the BMW films. I recall Carnahan directed one of them.
