I hope they pick a more unknown actor.

Give it to Michael Jai White again.

I found him a bit stiff with the role.

Agree that Jamie Foxx seems too mainstream for the role.

I liked the first 15 issues, but then he stopped drawing it, and it felt less superhero-ish and just really grotesque.
Spawn had this throne in bum alley, made up of maggots and skulls and bones. His costume redesign was for the worse too.

It's a shame he made enough money off Spawn's initial success to abandon Marvel and DC forever. He belongs drawing Spider-Man.
yeah, he draws the definitive Spider-man, Peter Parker, and Mary Jane in my opinion.

I didn't like it at all. Leguizamo as "Clown" was pretty disgusting to look at. I guess that was the point, but from the comic, I saw being played more like a Danny DeVito-type.

No, he would be an awful Al Simmons.

There is nothing wrong with the 1997 live-action Spawn.
What's needed, if anything, is a sequel.

I like Michael Jai White, but I expected someone a little less serious. White does look and act the part of a CIA assassin. But Al Simmons in the early Spawn stories seemed a little more easy going, and light-hearted. MJW as Chapel would have been a better fit.
I can definitely see Jamie Foxx as Al.

Then there was the suit. It looked more like armor than a traditional superhero costume. Spawn looked cool in the comics because he was a like a cross between Batman and Spider-man (or Prowler).

Terry was an important character in the comics, and actually a pretty likable and relatable guy. I didn't like that they made him white, nor did I like the actor they chose.

I'll defer to your expertise.
I don't know a thing about the comics.

EVERYTHING is wrong that movie. The script is terrible, every actor chews the scenery like they are in a Wonka factory, the CGI is atrocious, and the plot is terrible. It's one of the worst comic book movies there is. And that's a fact.

Chadwick Boseman or Michael B Jordan could also rock it.

I didn't find it that terrible.

Not to be obvious, but we live in a fact-free world right now.

Full disclosure: I haven't seen the movie since its release.

Kinda doubt Chadwick Boseman would do it while he’s playing Black Panther. Maybe Michael B. Jordan since he’s probably not returning as Killmonger. I just don’t see Jamie Foxx as Spawn though. Plus the last comic book movie he was involved with was about as bad as the original Spawn film.

I never saw the Spawn movie, but McFarlane's comic book was fucking awful.

I would like to point out an error in the title of the thread. The director is Todd McFarlane not Seth McFarlane.

Spawn done in the vein of The Orville would be awesome.

Yeah, I don’t know Spawn has never been my favorite either. He’s little more than a cool design to me. I did sort of like the HBO animated series though.

IDK, been a while since I read it, but I liked it back during its run.

Word. The animated series was actually pretty frickin awesome. I love that cartoon...And damn, it still seems pretty risqué even when watching it now...

The movie on the other hand? It was okay for it's time, but I agree that it hasn't aged that well...

A quick bump, the 1997 Spawn movie is currently for free viewing on Vudu if anyone needs a reminder why its getting a reboot.
