Kevin Smith

“Killroy” stems from a conversation taken from one of his weekly podcasts.

Spitballing ideas while high on a podcast hasn't produced anything worthwhile yet so I doubt this will be any different.

Re: Killroy Was Here (D: Kevin Smith)

So what happened to Moose Jaws? I understand that he isn't shooting Clerks 3 because Rosario is very busy and had to pull out of the project. Mallrats 2 doesn't have any takers. Moose Jaws seemed to be a slam dunk, but now he is making a film that no one has heard of until now?

Ever since Smith got on the Pot Train, his films have gotten worse. Sure, both Red State and Tusk had positives, but Yoga Hosers had no much going for it. I used to be excited for a new Kevin Smith film. Now I groan at what the film is about. I will see it, but I won't rush out to see it like I would in the past.

You think at this point Kevin would ACCIDENTALLY make something decent.

Seriously, he's never been a good director...he should stick with writing. And podcasting, of course, which he's great at.

Yep. I am now 100% uninterested in anything he does, and that includes any future movie in his View Askew universe. It was fun while it lasted, but he should hang up the hockey jersey and call it a day.

I guess I'll keep watching Dogma.

I think that's a little harsh. Like Robert Rodriguez, he has that "shut up and shoot" approach. He writes something, finds money, and shoots it. It's all his, and he doesn't seem too worried about appeal outside of his regular audience. For whatever reason, he doesn't focus on working with studios. Even though he probably could, since he keeps his budgets so low. He could probably be working like Woody Allen or The Coen Brothers if he wanted.

Yoga Hosers reminded me of Alex Cox's Repo Chick ... a well known director working in that ultra-low budget range. Almost like filming something from their basement.

Didn't he promise to retire from directing after Red State? He failed even at that.

Re: Killroy Was Here (D: Kevin Smith)

Mallrats, Clerks and Chasing Amy are classics in my view. After that he's been hit or miss. Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl, Clerks 2, Red State and Tusk all had their moments. I like them all to some degree. Cop Out and Yoga Hosers were both complete write offs though.

Too Fat For 40 is one of the best stand up specials of the last decade.

I still like a lot of what he puts out, I'm hoping however, that Yoga Hosers isnt a sign of things to come, because it was one of the worst films I've ever seen.

Ah, the ole retirement fantasy. We're all on the verge of retirement. Then we turn 80.

He did warn people it was made for a specific demographic. I watched for five minutes, realized he was right, and stopped watching.

Correct. This is why Clerks 3 isn't happening.

That's what it was -- Anderson officially "retired" from acting. Or some shit.

Re: Killroy Was Here (D: Kevin Smith)

Killjoy was Here is actually a reworked version of Smith's planned Krampus movie :

http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3442146/kevin-smiths-comes-krampus-becomes-killroy-shooting-now/

BTW, the reason Smith's Banzaroo Bandai series never happened was due to legal issues with the creators of that property. Gotta respect Smith for not wanting to step on their toes.

Other notes:

Moose Jaws will apparently be filmed later this year after Jay & Silent Bob 2.

Mallrats 2 almost happened as a TV series, but no network was interested. Clerks 3 and Mallrats 2 will eventually be made into comics or prose format books.

Wow. I posted 3 times in that thread and yet I have no recollection of this being announced previously. Guess that goes to show how much attention I pay to new Kevin Smith projects these days.

I used to enjoy his podcast, and looked forward to it often... haven't heard it in years though... I am shocked he continues to do well.. good luck to him though..more power to him for finding a way to make a living, although I never really cared for almost anything he has done other than the version 1.0 of his podcast with Mosher...

Re: Killroy Was Here (D: Kevin Smith)

Presenting The Gator Chaser - a nasty-ass South Florida streamer played by @chrisjerichofozzy! I’ve been shooting a horror anthology called #KillroyWasHere with the kids of @ringlingcollege, @digitalcaviar and #semkhorproductions for about a year now. Over the course of three trips to #sarasota, we’ve been making a modern-day #creepshow kinda flick with 70% of the crew being students so filled with raw talent, their pure passion for film and ability to find fixes to production problems makes up for any deficit of experience. Every crew member wears multiple hats on a low budget film - so last night when Jericho got to set, I asked the master podcaster and #wwe icon to not only act but also operate the camera for himself in his scene as well! When presented with this info, did the Fozzy frontman show trepidation? No way: homey goes with the flow and not only CRUSHES his character and dialogue but shoots a damn spooky scene as well! That’s the kind of actor or actress you need on an indie film: a partner who’ll not only carry their end of the bargain but also help elevate the entire production as well! And even when this pic was taken at 4 in the morning, Chris was all energetic - and mind you, he just got back from Europe the night before. I’ve been wanting to work with the man since we guested on each other’s podcasts and I was delighted to discover an actor I’ll cast forever now! Because film IS Jericho! #KevinSmith #chrisjericho #talkisjericho #fozzy #florida #indiefilm #ringlingcollege #digitalcaviar
