Forgive me if you've said so already but, did you see it? Because lots of folks who never saw it are saying it's bad. But I think they are just parroting WB's obvious propaganda that it was "Bad" which they did to not look like assholes for shelving it like they did.

Well to be fair, nobody said Coyote vs Acme was bad, it had several potential bidders and it still got killed by Zazlov. So maybe Batgirl isn't the trainwreck it's rumored to be, but in the end, WB doesn't care either way. And apparently taking the tax write off is more profitable to them than selling their content to another streamer. That's a problem in my book. It's one thing to make a dud, incur a business loss and then get a write off, it's quite another to decide that a total write off is more financially beneficial to them.

Some member of Congress could win an untold number of new supporters by drafting legislation requiring films to enter the public domain in return for a tax write off.

I get that it’s a job for him but a little disheartening to know that Keaton cared more about the money for reprising Batman than the actual role itself. Considering I like him as an actor a lot and his version of Batman has always been a favorite of mine.

It doesn't surprise me. I heard a story from a really nice small business that booked him for an autograph signing. Apparently he was a nightmare, making a bunch of weird demands and only signing half of the items after they'd already paid him. They lost a ton of money and almost had to shut down.

(I'd still watch it, though.)

From his perspective, I kind of get it. He got a nice paycheck and never has to do real press or advocating for the movie.
On the other hand, you’d think that as an artist, he’d feel a bit bad about the work of himself and his colleagues behind and in front of the camera being all for nothing, but he seems to be at a stage in life where that doesn’t matter anymore.

Also, I don’t really buy that an unreleased movie is a total business loss for the studio. That seems kind of self-inflicted.
If I spent $20K on a pricy piece of medical equipment and then nobody reimburses me for it, that is a business loss that I might deduct. If I instead buy that expensive equipment and throw it out the window and watch it shatter into a thousand pieces on the sidewalk below, well I don’t expect Uncle Sam to pick up the tab for that foolishness.

No forgiveness needed from me. (but maybe from someone a little more important) If WB could get any revenue out of this they would have. The proof is pretty much in their actions...and those actions say this film wasn't worth a damn.

We know for a FACT they could have gotten significant revenue out of “Coyote vs Acme” since Apple TV put s bid in on it, and they still killed that.

I can't find the quote from Fight Club, but it was Norton talking about his insurance company's policy. You can probably guess what it was.. essentially if the cost of doing a payout was greater than not doing it, they don't do it. If WB could've made more money in any way from this film, they would have.
