Just bits and pieces, channel surfing style for shits and giggles type of fashion. I definitely won't be watching it in its entirety.

Yep, my wife and I watch it. This year, I've seen all the best picture nominees, and almost all the acting ones.

My sentiments exactly.

I never watch awards shows of any type. If it happens to be of a type award in which I'm interested I can take all of 5 minutes, max, and read who won the next morning.

Re: Will you watch the Oscars?

I always channel surf throughout the night mostly at the beginning with the host doing his or her opening, and then near the end when all of the good awards are announced.

I've been complaining for years if they just cut this show down to 2 hours and cut out all of the fat then I would actually watch the whole show. It's just a bloated show in the middle as you can turn it on at the beginning as they usually announce the Supporting Catergory, and the end when they announce the major awards.

As for their politics, I hope they continue to make asses out of themselves and go all 'Meryl Streep.' They don't realize that they are just preaching to the choir and makes them look like they are becoming unhinged only after a month of being President.

I love movies. So, if Hollywood wants to pat themselves on the back for one night, I'll watch. I love football and I'll watch the Super Bowl even if I don't care about either team.

The best part about November 9th was that the election and the two years leading up to it was finally over. I saw on the news last night that this will be the most politically charged Oscars in history.

First and foremost did I vote for Trump? No. Do I approve of his moronic tweeting? No. But is an awards show the place for these pampered, spoiled, self important egotistical people to be spouting their politics? No. You are in a room where 99% of the people think as you do and there is no one to offer a counter-point. If you are really that smart, and would like to express your political views, please have your agent contact the Sunday morning political programs, go on, and discuss your views with the moderator. The stage at an awards show is not the place. The stage at Hamilton is not the place.

I do love movies. I like watching them for entertainment. Are there some musical scores I really like? Sure. The theme to Jurassic Park. The theme to Indiana Jones and others. But I am just not that into the details of a movie to care about who wins an Oscar for music or set design, or makeup. I understand all these are art forms in their own right, I just don't care enough about these categories to watch a show about who wins.

I'm sure we'll pop it on a couple times to check it out. But the show is overly long with too much fat in the middle to keep our attention. I do like Kimmel so we'll probably see his monologue. Now the monologue, if he wants to throw the zingers at Trump? Throw away my friend, that's the time for it. Both barrels if you want to. Just do it for the humor.

Nope. I used to when they meant something. So it has been a long time since I have seen them.

Re: Will you watch the Oscars?

Likely I will. Not looking forward to the political commentary. A few jokes are ok with me but the impassioned pleas and rants of actors are not something I appreciate. Stick to the craft.

Re: Will you watch the Oscars?

Will pop in on it from time to time. It's changed a lot from when I used to watch it when I was younger. A major aspect is that back in the 90s up to about 2007, the only surefire way to see everything was to either tape or DVR the ceremony. Nowadays you have youtube, CNN alerts, and other sources to see all of the important moments without having to sit through a bunch of commercials and memoriam ceremonies.

Re: Will you watch the Oscars?

The nominations usually determines my level of interest... which is not a lot this year. (pulling for Denzel though!) Had I been home I'd have it on, but muting most of the speeches. Turns out I'm working into the evening, so I'll follow a blog or running commentary about it. I'll tune in for the final big ones I suppose.

Re: Will you watch the Oscars?

Probably won't be watching as I have far better things to do, but have found it interesting that ABC does not put their annoying logo bug on the screen during the Oscars. It must be the only thing that people in the industry actually watch over the air and enough of them complained about it; sad that the same respect can't be shown for the other shows on the air anymore.

BIG reason I don't care about the Oscars anymore is that I've heard the people who vote on them aren't even required to have SEEN all of the movies they're voting on. I never enter those "prediction" contests as long as I haven't seen everything that's been nominated, if that's true of those who actually vote on them then the awards are truly meaningless.

I've watched every year since 1979 (pulled hard for my favorite movie then and now - Heaven Can Wait. It only won Art Direction). I'm not going to stop now.

It sucks, but how could it be enforced? They could hold special screenings and record who attended, but the academy consists of over 5,000 members with wildly varying schedules. They'd have to cut down the voting pool dramatically for it to work.

Re: Will you watch the Oscars?

I think for some categories you have to attend special screenings of all the films in order to vote.

Not only that, they should see them in the theater on the big screen. No matter how good our home theaters are, they are still smaller screens and we tend to be distracted by the dog and our phones and tablets.

I have a nephew whose boyfriend is in the academy. He gets those screeners so he always brings a few for my sister when he comes home to visit. Even with my new state of the art set-up, it doesn't compare to the theater experience.

Still watching but man this is a chore. I have no idea why they can't cut 4-6 awards out of the main telecast.

I knew something was up when I saw M. Night Shyamalan was directing.
