Will you watch the Oscars?
Who sits down and watches the entirety of award shows? Do you try to catch most or all, just the monologue, try to catch particular awards?
I might catch a few minutes but I really don't care what or who they are wearing. I don't care about to hear about their political beliefs. I've only seen one of the best picture nominees so far. I find awards like "best macaroni and cheese on the Kraft services table" to be somewhat boring.

Re: Will you watch the Oscars?
I usually watch most of it. Movies are my thing and I'm always at least vaguely interested to watch the big show of the year. Sure, 95% of it is vapid bullshit but it's basically a tradition at this point.
Plus, I like Kimmel so this year should be more tolerable than most.

Depends on what else I have going on. If I'm working the next morning then pretty much nothing on TV is worth missing sleep. But I'm off this Monday and the Oscars are the one award show that I'll watch start to finish if I have nothing else planned.

Haven't watched in years.

Re: Will you watch the Oscars?
I've watched every year since 1992.
For whatever reason, I enjoy the drawn-out pageantry. I'll have a six pack, stuff my face with food.
This is the first year I can remember when I haven't seen any of the nominees (I'll rent Arrival tomorrow and that will be the lone film I've seen). I used to pride myself on seeing nearly all of the nominees, but between the surge in quality TV shows, and the disappearance of all but one lousy theatre in my town, I don't seen many new movies any more.
That's okay, as my favourite part of the Academy Awards is always the fuck ups and spontaneous moments, like Samuel L Jackson cursing when he lost, or the best short award winner getting bum rushed by his co-nominee.
In case anyone is interested, here's a short video I did re-capping the disastrous 1989 Academy Awards.

Yes but I don't like Kimmel and ABC. I would rather see James Franco and Anne Hathaway host over him lol.
Just wished NBC or FOX had the TV rights. ABC has a lifetime contract and that should change.
Moving the Awards to late March would be even better like the old days. Why do the Super Bowl, Grammy's and Oscars almost all happen in back to back weeks. They should be spaced out.
This will probably the last big major must see TV event for a while.
The Golden Globes are much more exciting and move at a faster pace and they don't bore you with the people behind the scenes gettins awards for most of the show.
You have to sit for at least 2 and 1/2 hours of technical awards and then they do all the major awards in the final 20 minutes.

I usually have it on in the background, at least.
Couldn't care less about who's wearing what. Any sort of fashion police nonsense before the ceremony is annoying more than anything.

If I'm home, I might watch the opening act. That's where the supporting actor/actress are given out usually. Then turn the channel. Maybe tune in at the end for best actor/actress/director/film. Don't care about the middle crap. The few awards I do like are somewhere in there but I'm not watching the whole thing for that. That's what internet lists of winners are for.

No. I used to, but the phoniness of it all is sickening.

Nope. Haven't in a while but I usually look to see who won the day after.

Re: Will you watch the Oscars?
I usually watch both the Golden Globes and the Oscars. Occasionally the Emmy's. Some (most) of the speeches are pretty hard to watch, but I still like it for the comedy aspects, and the surprise of who wins, especially when I have a horse in the race.

Re: Will you watch the Oscars?
This will be the first year that I will not be watching the Oscars as it has become almost unwatchable for me. Hard to believe but there was actually a time when the show celebrated film and its history.

Re: Will you watch the Oscars?
I stopped watching it a while back. It's usually a bore fest and I get tired of Hollywood kissing it's own ass. I love film but awards shows and the Oscars in particular just come off pretentious and fake. I read the results and if someone I enjoy wins or a film I like wins I'll watch that part online later.

Re: Will you watch the Oscars?
I usually watch the whole thing, but I invariably hate myself in the morning.
Last year, I went to bed early and missed my favorite composer finally getting an Oscar (Ennio Morricone). So I hated myself for the opposite reason when I learned about it the next morning.
