How often do you watch your comfort movies?
i don't know what it is lately, but i seem to not be able to focus on newer movies at home.
sure, once in awhile i'll pop one in and enjoy it and stay in-tune throughout, but more recently i've been wanting to see more of my comfort films, that i know i enjoy and can watch many times and still enjoy. watching one triggers the want to see another and another and so forth.
could be the winter blahs as well as it is cold here in Hudson Valley, NY and don't feel like anything but comfort stuff...
i have so many unwatched new movies, blind buys, etc... that it seems daunting to pick one and go with it. it has been much easier to find a great one that i know i love and watch.
recently: Young Adult, Big Fan, Sixth Sense, Dreamscape, The Secret of My Success, Amelie, etc...
in the queue: White Squall, Brotherhood of the Wolf, Glengarry Glen Ross, House of the Devil, etc...
and the new ones that i have viewed at home lately just haven't wowed me. maybe it's my choices, save for The Secret Life of Pets, but i try to get into them and give them a chance, but something dissuades me...
what do you think? comfort mixed in with new releases? new releases only? strictly comfort films? what's in your queue?

At least once per week..probably 2.
I love rewatching movies I know backward and forward...
The Martian (At least once every couple weeks)
Men in Black trilogy
Monsters University
Big Bang Theory (TV but still)
Friends (TV but still)
Band of Brothers (once per 2-3 months)
Other various Pixar and animated movies
Star Trek Movies (all of them)
Star Wars Movies (all of them)
Too many more to list. No cable TV...just VUDU/Netflix and Amazon. Love it.

Re: How often do you watch your comfort movies?
Couple of times a year. I mean there are some I really enjoy but how many times can you watch a movie that you know almost line for line and enjoy watching it? There has got to be a burn out point and I dont want to reach it with my favorites. So a couple of times a year tend to be enough for me.

I have 5 or 6 favorite TV shows that I tend to watch through and then start another. Once I have worked my way through all of them I start over. As for movies I tend to watch the Star Wars OT, Star Trek original Crew films, Indiana Jones, Bond and Harry Potter films a lot.

I've shifted to comfort shows like The Simpsons and Bob's Burgers.

No set schedule - just whenever the mood hits. That can mean some get bi-annual watches and others every couple of years but it's never the same films that get any one of those. With 50+ years of movie/TV viewing I have *lots* of "comfort" titles. Easily enough to fully fill a couple of years with no repeats.

Less often than once a year.

I have to go with that, also.
Since I only get films I like, all my movies could be considered "comfort" movies. I have so many that fit the "comfort" category, I could probably watch one a week for two+ years without a repeat.
Thinking about it, that could be be much, much longer. Currently have about 1000 movies and almost half are blu-rays. At one a week, that would take nearly 2 decades.
What with the King; the Duke; Disney classic & modern animation, & live action; Pixar; Ray Harryhausen; numerous eclectic animated & live action films; 40's, 50's, & 60's rom-coms & musicals; etc.; etc.; I'd say I'm sitting pretty "comfortable".
Hmm... if I start watching 2 a week, it would only take 10 years.
Maybe I could start watching one a night... that would only take about 3 years!
Now I just have to figure out how to add another 2 hours to a day.

Re: How often do you watch your comfort movies?
I'm going with several times per year, but I'm not sure my viewings qualify. Most of the time it is popping them on when working at home or going to bed, so it's not usually a complete viewing. Hell, sometimes I will play the same movie three or four times in a row and never see any of it (while working from home).
Sometimes I will get "off center" (depressed?) and need to refocus on life. This usually starts with some stupid escapism like Super Troopers or Undercover Brother (Pushing Tin used to "re-center" me but I never upgraded my VHS) and then easing into something a little heavier or back to the more familiar.

I have a strange list that includes Blue Velvet, Taxi Driver, Midnight Cowboy, Chinatown, The Godfather I and II, The Wrestler...all excellent movies, but not exactly uplifting fare.

Re: How often do you watch your comfort movies?
It seems whenever there is a format change where I watched some of them again when I switched from DVD to Blu-ray.
I try to watch them at least once every 2-4 years like the Godfather Trilogy, Star Wars Episodes 4-6. and several Pacino and De Niro movies but I don't watch them too often to avoid getting sick of them.

Not often enough. It's been well over ten years since I've seen KUNG FU CULT MASTER.

Re: How often do you watch your comfort movies?
There's a handful of movies I'll watch once a year just because of the time of year:
JAWS near the 4th of July
PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES near Thanksgiving
LOVE ACTUALLY near Christmas
Other than that, I probably only watch my other favorites every few years...or if there's a sequel/reboot to an old favorite coming out.

Probably once/year - and usually if I happen across it on TV. Aliens, Superman, Jaws, Close Encounters, Terminator...to name a few.
