Got the digital for really cheap. It was okay. And since they took their sweet ass time, I doubt I'll pick it up on blu, unless the extras are top notch and cheap. But it is a Sony release, sontill be a $5 at some point.

This is one of my two favorite films from last year (the other being Everybody Wants Some!). I just watched it for a third time this weekend, and I'm still picking up on some things that I didn't catch in previous viewings.
I bought a digital copy on Vudu early this year when I saw that there wasn't a US Blu-ray release. I'll probably pick up the Canadian Blu-ray eventually. I'm really surprised that there's no Korean Blu-ray, but apparently packaged disc sales in South Korea are worse than they are here.
And just for good measure (and because I've got a bit of a crush on Kim Tae-ri), here's a photo of her, because you can't have too many (spoilered for size):

Terrific film in every way. It was so beautiful. I loved the subtle differences in scenes depending on POV. One of the better films I have seen this year.

Just saw this on Amazon Prime. Chan-wook Park has yet to let me down
Has anyone seen the 168 minute "director's cut"? What are the differences? From an interview I read, Park doesn't really describe it as his preferred cut of the movie. More like the original cut with some extra scenes (like so many "unrated cuts" these days). If that's the case, I'd just as soon see the bonus scenes on their own and not spliced into a movie that seemed masterfully put together as it was.

Bump. We got the DVD from Netflix. We liked it a lot. It's a gorgeous movie, the sex scenes were hot, and the plot twists were entertaining.
I know that a lot of girl-girl scenes are made for straight guys. The next day I showed it to a lesbian friend, and she thought it was hot.
The problem with historical movies is that we know what will happen next. At the end of The Handmaiden, the lovers are moving to the cosmopolitan, sophisticated city of Shanghai. They're going to live happily ever after. But only a couple of years after the end of the movie, Japan crushed Shanghai. World War II was already going on in China by 1937. The next decade will get pretty bad.

Does the Canadian release have any extras? It is the longer cut, correct? Might go for that SE region b version as I would love to hear from Park...

They eventually released a three-disc set containing the extended cut in South Korea, but it's quite expensive when compared to the UK release. The packaging on the South Korean releases is gorgeous:

I have that UK edition. The SK edition is from Plain Archive but it is sold out on their site, I believe, but 3rd market sellers want an arm and a leg for it.

It's on Amazon Prime now. I enjoyed the plot twists and POV changes. As well as the, um, other stuff.

just saw the extended cut blu from UK. what an absolutely beautiful looking and mesmerizing film. another Chan-wook winner. saw it in one sitting and that's saying a lot for me. just spellbinding and exquisitely acted. marvelous performances and the way it played out, with the twists and turns was glorious to witness.
