What do you consider to be the Coen Brothers worst film?
Solid filmmakers and I love most of their stuff but not all. What do you consider to be the Coen Brothers worst film?
I still have not seen :
Hail, Caesar!
True Grit
The Ladykillers
Intolerable Cruelty
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
The Hudsucker Proxy
Of the ones I have, it would probably be A Serious Man.

I'm a weirdo that seems to never really like their movies, and yes that includes No Country For Old Men. So I voted for that.

Hail Caesar and Intolerable Cruelty were the two I just really couldn't get into. I had higher hopes for Hail Caesar, so the disappointment level made me vote for that.

Strange to me to do a thread when you haven't seen all their work.
I don't see how anyone could vote for anything other than The Ladykillers.
I personally loved Burn After Reading. I think it's hilarious.

Hail Caesar for me, I liked most of Burn After Reading and The LadyKillers, though Ladykillers certainly lacks much of that Coen quality.

Dammit I picked Hail Caesar and realized I didn't see Ladykillers in the list. That would be my vote for sure - I actively disliked it whereas Hail Caesar was a big "meh" for me.

Re: What do you consider to be the Coen Brothers worst film?
For me it would be a toss-up between The Ladykillers (unpleasant in every way) and Intolerable Cruelty (astonishingly bland for a Coen Bros movie).
I really disliked Burn After Reading, but it grew on me during a second viewing.
It's hard for me to think of Hail Ceasar! as a failed movie. It played to me like a collection of sketches rather than a feature length story. Unfortunately, not all of the little bits worked, but the ones that did (the religious leader's meeting, the sailor song and dance, the cowboy musical) stand up there with the Coen's best work.

The worst are:
The Ladykillers (worst as its a remake and just horrible....especially Hanks who is no Alec Guiness)
Intolerable Cruelty
o Brother Where Art thou
They have done a few others like Burn After Reading that are average but have a few stand out scenes (Malckovich...."I have a drinking problem?". I have a personal hatred for Fargo as the stupid accents make me want to destroy the TV, but the killers make it worth watching....once.
How anyone could vote for Raising Arizona or No Country is beyond me.
Oh and Blu, check out Millers Crossing. It's a great movie.
Oh, and I actually didn't mind Hail Ceasar. I saw a documentary on the real Mannix and the guy was a son of a bitch, so the movie doesn't show he very accurately but again a few decent scenes that made it worth watching.

I was unable to tolerate INTOLERABLE CRUELTY when I tried to watch it on cable some years ago, so I never finished it. Of the ones I've seen all the way through, the worst is HAIL CAESAR. Although FARGO was pretty bad, too. However, all of their films have good stuff in them, even when they don't succeed. They're interesting filmmakers even when they fail, so I don't regret going to see any of their films in theaters.

The biggest about-face I've ever done with a movie was for Burn After Reading. It is quite possibly the most I've laughed during a movie at the theater. I then bought the blu-ray and couldn't believe how unfunny it was on the second viewing. It was my wife's first viewing of it and I almost felt that I needed to apologize after building it up so much.
As highly regarded as it is I just could never get into Fargo. I won't call it bad, it just isn't for me.
A Serious Man fell completely flat for me as well.
Still haven't seen The Ladykillers or Hail, Caesar!. I've heard bad things about the former, still interested in seeing the latter.

Unpopular pick, but I'm going with O Brother. I'm convinced people just like it for the music. It's story is lame, the characters are unpleasant, and the comedy is dumb and loud.

Hail Caesar or The Ladykillers.
I loved Intolerable Cruelty though. I'm always in the minority on that one.

"I Am a Man ... of Constant Sorrow"
SHUT IT GEORGE!

I'm in the minority that couldn't stand 'No Country for Old Men' - I was checking my watch every five minutes after the first hour - what a stupid ending.

Wow. Curiosity dictated that I look at this thread, checked out the poll listing, realized I've only ever seen one movie from that list: Raising Arizona, which I loved. Not a big comedy fan, most comedies seem dumber than shit to me, but Raising Arizona is hilarious! Not sorry I haven't seen the others, they're just not my cup of tea (so to speak)...

Re: What do you consider to be the Coen Brothers worst film?
Okay, gotta ask: how do you know they're not your cup of tea if you haven't seen them? If you really like Raising Arizona maybe try Fargo. I've seen half of the list and those are my favorites.
I don't know if I should vote since the ones I've seen are their more highly regarded movies. If I had to pick one then I'll have to pick Barton Fink. Maybe I should rewatch it but it didn't do much for me back in the day it was released.

I suppose I should watch more of their films someday, the only two I've ever seen are O Brother.. , which is a favorite film overall and Fargo, which was painful to watch unless Frances McDormand was onscreen and then it was absolute magic.
