STX announces Bad Moms spinoff, Bad Dads

As STX Entertainment’s hit comedy Bad Moms heads towards $180 million worldwide at the box office, the global media company has announced its first film offshoot of the brand, Bad Dads, will be released next year on July 14, 2017. STX Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group has numerous takes on this spinoff and will reveal additional details shortly.

STX says that sequels on average are grossing 68% less than the originals. Instead, STX has chosen to focus on extending consumer passion for the Bad Moms brand with a series of film spin-offs, a reality television show, short form digital content, and a robust consumer products program.

Bad Moms was produced for $20 million and opened to $23.8 million on the weekend of July 29th. With a current multiple of 4.7, the film recently surpassed Zootopia to secure the highest opening weekend multiple of any film released this year.

I see the high level of creativity for titles is still there. Reminds me of seeing generic "Beer" cans at the store.

I was kind of expecting them making a sequel based on how much it made, but hoping I was wrong. Bad Dads just sound awful.

Jason Sudeikis
Ed Helms
Owen Wilson
Seth Rogen

And here I thought they would have went the "Bad Grandmoms" route.

With Marvel, I think Paul is done with these types of things for the time being.

He's been around. He had This is 40 in 2012, Sex Tape in 2014, The End of the Tour in 2015 and something called The Discovery coming out next year.

So basically a couple of bombs and quiet movies. I did look up The Discovery and it seems like an interesting cast. But he's def not someone that would be interested in this project anymore.

I loved The End of the Tour - he was fantastic in it.
