Stone (Curran, 2010): Robert De Niro and Edward Norton
From Variety:
IMDB
A few years ago, this acting matchup would have had me salivating, but now...meh.
Robert De Niro and Edward Norton are attached to star in the indie psychological thriller "Stone," to be helmed by John Curran.
Story centers on a correctional officer (De Niro) who is seduced by the wife of a convicted arsonist (Norton) up for parole.
Angus MacLachlan ("Junebug") penned the screenplay.
"Stone" marks the debut film of Mimran Schur Pictures, a company formed earlier this year by private investor David Mimran and longtime music biz executive and former Geffen Records prexy Jordan Schur.
Holly Wiersma ("Bobby") is producing alongside Mimran and Schur. Avi Lerner, Rene Besson, Trevor Short and Danny Dimbort are exec producing.

Curran did We don't Live Here Anymore and The Painted Veil, both of which I liked.
Edward Norton hasn't stepped up since 2002. What a waste.

It saddens me when I spend a couple of days glazing over this post on the front page, wondering if I should even bother to open it because DeNiro is such a shell of his former self.

I think this film will get people excited - I mean, really excited - if DeNiro, Norton, and the Picture get Oscar-nominations. That always packs em in.

When was Deniro's last Oscar nomination? What was the last Deniro film to get people really, really excited?
I would love to see Deniro have a career resurgence but I don't see it happening. Even Nicolas Cage is in a good movie every five years or so.

I also hear really good things about his performance in Stardust, which I'll get around to eventually.
The last (only?) good Cage film for me is The Weather Man. Everything else is pretty ho-hum.

The Good Shepherd was amazing....
The only reason it didn't do good in theaters was because it's a very long film....

Very ignorant comment/person right here, Have you even seen any of his films the last few years? De Niro is doing fine, He was in top form for his recent film What Just Happened. I don't care what anyone says, I loved Righteous Kill. He was also really good in his supporting role in Stardust. Men of Honor, 15 Minutes, The Score, & City by the Sea were all good films. Plus his comedy work which it seems like the main genre he's focusing on the last few years is fine. I enjoyed Meet the Parents/Fockers, Analyze That, & Showtime. No matter what project he works on, De Niro delivers quality work.

There's nothing ignorant at all about the person or the comment.

You loved "Righteous Kill," and you are calling someone's taste in films ignorant? And "Men of Honor" and "15 Minutes" . . .
I am a Robert Deniro fan, but feel he lost his way somewhere in the early 90's and has become a shell of his former talent. I believe if he would choose more challenging scripts and talented directors he still has what it takes, see "Heat" and "Casino."

Re: Stone (Curran, 2010): Robert De Niro and Edward Norton
Robert De Niro is my all time favorite actor & I own almost all his films on DVD. I'm sick of people talking out of their ass about him. Too many judge him when they haven't even seen much of his recent work. Guess what? I've seen it all & he's still the best actor around. He still does quality work & most of his projects are still pretty good. What ignorant about liking Righteous Kill? I thought it was very good & entertaining, It was my personal favorite film of last year, It only starred the two best actors of all time. It was no "Heat" but I still enjoyed it alot & I thought it was very under-rated/over-hated. Men of Honor & 15 Minutes were really good so what's your point?

How do you figure? Are you saying that audiences are just as excited about his recent fare like Righteous Kill as they were with Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, etc? Of course not.
People aren't talking "out of their ass" about them. Everyone has an opinion, and the overwhelming one leans towards De Niro's recent work being far weaker then before. And you're on a movie forum, where many people HAVE seen a lot of his recent work. It's fine that he's your favorite actor and you enjoy all his movies. There's nothing wrong with that. But calling someone else ignorant for stating otherwise is silly, and a personal attack. Lighten up.

Oops, fixed. And you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. I don't see anything ignorant about what he wrote. It's pretty much true.
