The local Alamo Drafthouse had already scheduled a showing of Willie Wonka for Sept 21st before he passed. Two of the child stars are scheduled to be there (Veruca Salt and Mike TeeVee). This showing will be especially poignant.
RIP Gene. So many laughs. Not only are you back with Gilda but cracking them up with Richard Pryor.
Heavy sigh

Damn. Heard this on the radio on the drive home and was kinda stunned. Definitely a one-of-a-kind actor. His delivery is so unique - and fitting for every role he played. For years, I've had as my Windows start-up sound "Alive ...! It's alive! IT's ... ALIVE!!" Gonna need to go rewatch some stuff in appreciation of the fun I've had watching it before.
I kinda hate to admit this now ... but ... I've never seen Willy Wonka.
Please don't hurt me.

First time he ever made me frown. Rest in peace Mr. Wilder I'm sure wife Gilda Radner, Richard Pryor and Peter Boyle were there to meet you at the gates.
If you're blue and you don't know where to go to, why don't you go where fashion sits? Puttin' on the Ritz!
Come with me and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination...

He's in a better place. And we're in a sadder one...

I just checked, and neither Netflix or Amazon Prime has ONE movie of his to stream. Shame.....
I own a bunch on disc, but I was gonna watch one in bed to fall asleep to tonight.

Everything I was planning on saying has already been said in this thread, I'll just say Wilder was one of those actors who made me feel happy just seeing him on screen. I know he's been out of the spotlight for several years but it doesn't hurt any less knowing he's gone.
RIP Gene Wilder, a true cinematic legend!

RIP Gene. Probably the greatest comic actor of my lifetime.
This is sadly the best version of this scene I found on YouTube but it is such a brilliant moment in such a great body of work:

R.I.P., Mr Wilder. You are sorely missed.
Time for a Wlderfest this weekend. Think I'll cue up Silver Streak, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and The Producers. Think I'll pickup Willy Wonka to add to it.

He is in three of my all time favorite comedies (The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein) - I'm not a religious man, but if I happen to be wrong, I hope there is a wonderful reward awaiting him in the next world.

From 1967 to 1980, Gene was untouchable, he really didn't have any comedic equals in America. He was head an shoulders above the rest. The only guy who comes close to him in that approximate time period is Peter Sellers. 2 of the alltime greats.

Mel Brooks has outlived most of his stars.

I'm a huge fan of his comedy, but I also thought this was a pretty funny fact about him. I was reading a bit on William Hobbs, who was a big Hollywood swordfighting choreographer. He did Ridley Scott's The Duelists, Depardieu's Cyrano, Lester's Three Musketeers movies, Excalibur, Flash Gordon, Mel Gibson's Hamlet, Rob Roy, and others.
"Hobbs reckons that Gene Wilder was his most promising actor-pupil, having worked with him in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother. 'He could actually fence.'"
(From the book By The Sword--Richard Cohen)

Mr. Salt: "Wonka. Butterscotch? Buttergin? Got a little something going on the side?"
Willy Wonka: "Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker."

I loved Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory but to be honest looking at his filmography I don't think I've seen any of his other films. Either way RIP.
