Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017, D: S. Craig Zahler) - S: Vaughn, Johnson

Sure, when you're at home you can do whatever the fuck you want, but I do not know ANY FUCKING DIRECTOR THAT MAKES A FILM TO BE VIEWED IN BITS AND PIECES. Just because this is 2017 where home video has so many options for viewing, does not take that fact away. There may be some exceptions to that rule, but audiences before the digital age had no other way than to sit thru it or get up and leave. Sorry, not sorry, your ADHD can't comprehend that.

Saw this yesterday. Thought it was alright. It was great to see Vince Vaughn not be Type-Cast and the gore was cartoon-like yet effective. Other than that, I thought the entire film felt sterile & awkward.

This review didn't like the Fight Choreography:

I might be interested in some good extras for this. Maybe give the film another chance too...

Dude, Zahler is 2/2 in my book. Vaughn is one mean motherfucker. This reminded me of "Taken" in that Vaughn is fully overpowered the entire time, except for a few minor moments when they try to remind you he's human, but 97% of this thing is him steamrolling dudes left and right. And I totally bought it. This is the first time I can say Vaughn was legit intimidating.
That final "fight" was next-level brutal. The sound design deserves an award. Loved all of the old-school FX work. This was a love letter to '70s revenge films.
Great minimal soundtrack, too. Some nice cuts in there.
Loved the bit where
Spoiler:
Now he's doing one with Gibson next? I am 100% ready to see Mel chew this kinda scenery.

Was surprised when the credits rolled that Zahler wrote all the songs for the O'Jays/Tavares. That's one badass EP they put together.

Just watched this last night & have a whole new respect for Vince as an actor. He played one of the best bad ass characters I've ever seen. It was great the way the suspense was built up just waiting for him to snap & rage out from the very beginning when he gets fired from his job. A few things I didn't understand though...

Glad to see that Zahler has one of the 70 songs considered to make the Original Song list.

Watched this last night free on Amazon Prime. I liked it but was not blown away by it. The fight scenes were good, and I enjoyed Vaughn in a different type of role. The movie kind of fell apart for me when he went to Redleaf and the prison looked like a generic building in Bulgaria in a cheap movie.
Overall would give it a 3/5. Thought it was good, but not great.

Kind of funny you say that. The film was shot entirely in New York.

The best prison movie I've seen this year is Shot Caller. This film is kind of a trainwreck but in a good way.

Caught it on there, and wow, I was blown away by the acting, fight scenes, and brutality of a lot of it. This film has a lot of heart, and for me makes the brutality excusable considering the stakes.
I was confused a little bit by who was holding you know who hostage, until the very end with the phone call. Thought that could’ve been clearer, but maybe I missed a key line here or there (I am recovering from the flu).

Since this and Shot Caller were both on Prime, I watched both. I felt this film was way better. You could feel every hit, every break, it's just crazy. Towards the end I even said Holy Shit out loud and my daughter asked if everything was okay from the other room
I loved Bone Tomahawk and this was a fantastic follow up. Can't wait to see what he does next.

Watched this last night and while there were some major plot issues (like why Vaughn even made some of the choices he did), the movie was great... brutal and sad. Vaughn has been a huge letdown since Wedding Crashers (IMO) but this one totally redeemed him and as another poster said, he was a bad-ass, brute force beast and I believed every second of it.
