When Harry Met Sally was HARDLY controversial/scandalous. The film was a critical and commercial success and that particular scene was celebrated, not shunned.

Anyway, definitely Last Temptation of Christ. Brilliant movie.

Voted for White Dog. Great late Sam Fuller flick.

Although I must say that list feels a little incomplete without Cannibal Holocaust.

I've tried to search for it but there are so many Mad Max search results it's probably on page 150 or something.

There were two teenage boys obsessed with The Road Warrior. They watched it over and over and over, finally committing suicide by blowing their brains out. The movie was blamed and started a controversy over violence in movies.

Last Temptation Of Christ is a masterpiece. Pissing of Christians was just an added bonus, IMO.

I still don't get this hatred of Christians, i.e., pleasure of pissing them off. Is this a distaste for all organized religions inc. Islam or directly to followers of Jesus in all then myriad forms?

I do remember Fatal Attraction really struck a nerve with people when it came out in 1987. I was in middle school so I was too young to totally get it but I don't think a movie had ever gone that far in dealing with the consequences of infidelity. I do remember some of my aunts in my family would say, "That will teach him not to pull that shit ever again on his wife!" And some of my uncles in my family would say, "I am not even thinking about cheating after seeing that movie!"

Who said anything about hatred? Did the poster piss them off? No, a movie did, because it didn't follow their image of the biblical Jesus, or whatever. Boo hoo.

During the release of When Harry Met Sally deli owners across the nation protested outside theatres because of that scene. There were even bomb threats.

Any movie that was copyrighted in 1979, had a festival screening in 1979, or was released in NY and LA for Oscar consideration in December of 1979, and then had a wide release in 1980 would belong to which decade?

The year of the first screening is the official year for a film. Thousands of movies are copyrighted the previous year of the official year.

Saw WHMS in a theater and never heard anything about this. Sure it wasn't local to your area?

That was of course a joke, but Woody Allen DID spend 242 days picketing in front of the famous Ziegfeld theater in New York to call attention to the fact that When Harry Met Sally was a bland rip-off of his work.

I went with RED DAWN because it so pissed off my liberal co-workers at a public library media center that they got upset when one of the staff shrugged and said it was just a movie. Someone even said, "People in the media are naturally liberal. How could anyone even think of defending that movie?" or something like that. I eventually saw it and remember liking the politics more than I thought I would. But then I was a fan of John Milius when he was making decent films, even in my most left-of-center periods.

I hated When Harry Met Sally... (1989) (deli scene/fake orgasm)! I wanted someone to slap Meg Ryan's face with a big sausage. :)
