Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
I like the new trailer better, but that may mostly be from lowered expectations. Favorite bit was probably the Patty "I'm just just going to leave" moment but that was kind of ruined by the selfie-stick appearance, which seemed like an already dated joke straight out of a lame "parody" movie.
I also liked the "She may have misspoke"/"sad lonely women" part but mostly because I remember Feig explained that joke in his pitch to Sony (which was leaked in the emails) and it has the potential to be a good running gag. |
Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
That was a much better trailer, it had some moments that were pretty amusing. I might check this out on home video after all.

The only difference is that those "types" (wink wink, I'm talking about the sexist nerds) can generally avoid her other movies whereas Ghostbusters puts her at ground zero of the nerd world.
I would only watch a movie with Melissa McCarthy in it if everything and everyone else in it looked really good. This isn't that movie. Not even close. You don't even need to venture outside this forum or even this thread to see a substantial amount of McCarthy hatred. For me, personally, there have been plenty of male comedic actors who I hated over the last 3 decades (David Spade, Andrew Dice Clay, Chris Farley, etc). She's just one of many comedic actors that I strongly dislike. |

Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
As far as the International trailer...
...it still looks bad. Really bad. Epic bad. The International trailer makes it look like a SNL all-female parody of Ghostbusters. A bad parody. The only thing that made it any better was the NON inclusion of Jones' crowd surf, "black or woman thing," fall and rant. That's one of the most pathetic gags I've seen in decades. |
Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
I'm really digging the remix version of the theme song. While the original will always be the best, I always like different takes on songs and that one has really stuck in my head.

Hollywood doesn't need genre fans. |
Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
Hollywood doesn't need genre fans necessarily but it doesn't hurt to have them on your side either. Disney is a prime example of knowing how to appease both fanboys and the general public with the Marvel films and with Star Wars. It can certainly be easy to just sweep the fans who have been supportive off to the side but that's kind of short sighted. The reality is this film and others like it will be the flavor of the month with likely not as much staying power. So while they'll make money in the short term it doesn't pay off to piss off fans completely in my opinion.

Yeah I stil never saw Cars 2, or The Good Dinosaur. Monsters University was also a bottom of the barrel effort.
|
Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
I actually liked Cars, it was a love letter to the road trip and exploring the backroads, and it also just seemed completely different than everything else Pixar (which is a good thing in my book.) But yeah, Cars 2 and Monsters U were just bad.

Yes, and the number of fans necessary to keep a moribund series generating money is far less than it takes to make a new film a financial success.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
Just watched the international trailer - it IS better, and you know why? not ONE, SINGLE shot of Jones yelling/screaming, which we've seen in every trailer so far.
you guys can say what you want about McCarthy, i don't mind her at all. But how anyone finds Jones' schtick funny is completely incomprehensible to me. |
Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
Yeah Jones has come across as the stereotypical angry black lady in the other trailers so far. Her along with McCarthy are the biggest things making me not wanting to see this.

McKinnon, on the other hand, I find to be hilarious. |
Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
Agree - i'd rank them in the following manner
1 - McKinnon (i really like her) . . . 2 - Wiig (she really got annoying for me on SNL (gilly, target lady, etc), then was just OK in movies) . 3 - McCarthy (she doesn't annoy me as much as she seems to annoy others... but that honestly may be because my experience with her is solely when she appears on talk shows or TV shows, also maybe some clips on youtube or movie previews - i have never fully watched a single one of her movies (yes, even Bridesmaids... I have been meaning to for a while, just never got around to it)) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Jones (i would have gone for an even longer post signifying just how abysmal she is, but didn't want to do that to you guys) |
Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
I'll just assume it's a logarithmic scale.

Not sure what height has to do with shooting ghosts with lasers? It's not like they're engaging them in hand-to-hand combat.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
She is the only character who I would say fits the type of ghostbuster which are modeled after Garbage men. 6' tall not too skinny or too fat for the role and looks believable for the part. The other three actresses are not tall enough, too skinny or too fat. Since its going to be the same movie beat for beat as the original, its bull shit fantasy that these women would save New York.

ok, that makes zero sense. The originals weren't garbagemen - they were (and are) professors/scientists (except Winston and now Jones). Wiig and McKinnon are average female height. McCarthy below average, Jones above average. Again, their physical stature has nothing to do with fighting ghosts. it's all science and proton packs and ghost traps. Edit: - Ah, I see you've already argued your weird point earlier in this thread. So I'll just reference you back to everyone that disagreed with you then. |
Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
They are modeled after garbage men that has been said many times by Dan Akyroyd.
|
Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
Yeah that is a bullshit excuse. The gender isn't an issue for me either its who they chose to be in the film.

http://www.esquire.com/entertainment...-oral-history/ "AYKROYD: They were like vacuum cleaner or elevator repairmen, or firemen. The idea was to have them blend into the urban landscape. Calling a Ghostbuster was just like getting rats removed." he in no way has said he modeled them physically after garbagemen. You're grasping for straws. (by the way, women can be garbage collectors AND firefighters! Who knew?!) |

So, only tall, average weight men can save New York City? This is TRULY the position you are going with? |
Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
Who wants to place bets that Leslie Jones' character will say one or more of the following:
"Oh, HELL, naw!" "Now THAT'S what I'm talking about!" "That IS nasty!" "Daayaaamn!" |
Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
Who wants to place bets that a bunch of socially inept nerds will lose their shit over this movie?

"You don't like Paul Blart: Mall Cop? Well, you're a cocksucker!" Nowhere on this board for the many years I've been on it have people been this uptight over a movie pro or con like this one. |

I saw the trailer (the second one, I assume) for the first time before The Angry Birds Movie over the weekend. The only complimentary thing I can say about it is that some of the effects looked nice. It got no reaction from the audience whatsoever, whereas The Lego Batman Movie teaser went over quite well. |

Just like how McCarthy is always joking about her size and how she is out of shape, and how she doesn't fit into situations because of how she looks. Same thing in every performance. I'm sure some troll will be along before too long to tell me that I'm a racist or a sexist because I don't find their tired old schtick funny.
But seriously, I agree with you about Jones. I've said in this thread that Jones needs to grow past this one "Angry Black Woman" persona in her roles to have staying power. But then again, McCarthy has, according to you and others here, done the same "fat girl" persona...Yet...she been very successful much to the dismay of folks here. So perhaps these successful women know more about their careers and what they need than you and I? |
