Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer

The most disliked Trailer in Youtube history..

Now some are saying this is because people have a problem with an all-women cast but.. you know.. this remake looks really REALLY lame. What about that?

I do dislike how if you don't like the trailer you're apparently some woman-hating sexist. I don't have a problem with the female Ghostbusters idea really. I do have a problem with it looking like yet another unnecessary, hackneyed remake of a superior '80s movie that will sink like a stone after a week or two.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer

I don't think it looks particularly awful. I just don't think it looks good enough to visit the movie theater for. I think it's going to tank big time after the first week and even the first week numbers probably won't be great. I will probably redbox it at the end of the summer when it comes out.

Outside of a couple kid movies I'm still trying to figure out what Hollywood is shipping out for their normal summer blockbusters. I don't see a whole lot on the schedule.

As noted in the other thread, I have a problem with the title. Seriously, they couldn't even be creative enough to make a new title. Lazy.

I think this movie certainly counts as a potential summer blockbuster. Plus there seem to be a few out of the comic book realm --- Batman v Superman, Captain America, X-Men, Suicide Squad and TMNT. There's the Independence Day sequel which will be huge. There's another Star Trek and Jason Bourne movie too. Then I think there will be some surprises (if they're good) with Warcraft and The Legend of Tarzan.

I think that's enough for a pretty solid run of fun summer flicks.

It doesn't look great, it doesn't look awful, but when a website like 4Chan or Reddit goes on a vendetta, it tends to make the news -- and that seems to be what happened here.

The big upcoming movies:
May 6th: Captain America: Civil War
May 20th: Angry Birds, Neighbors 2, The Nice Guys
May 27th: Alice Through the Looking Glass, X-Men: Apocalypse
June 3rd: TMNT: Out of the Shadows, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping
June 10th: The Conjuring 2, Now You See Me 2, Warcraft
June 17th: Finding Dory, Central Intelligence
June 24th: Independence Day: Resurgence
July 1st: The BFG, Tarzan, The Purge 3
July 8th: Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, The Secret Life of Pets
July 15th: Ghostbusters
July 22nd: Ice Age: Collision Course, Star Trek Beyond
July 29th: Jason Bourne
August 5: Suicide Squad, The Founder
August 12th: Sausage PArty, Pete's Dragon
August 19th: War Dogs, Ben-Hur

Seems like a standard Summer line-up. Civil War is the "massive title", ID4:2, Jason Bourne, Suicide Squad, The BFG and X-men: Apocalypse should all do very well.

I think Finding Dory might outgross all those films you listed besides Civil War.

Trailer just looked awful and has nothing to do with it being women, or it being a reboot, or whatever. Just doesn't look funny. Are Exorcist jokes really still a thing in 2016? Or "that's gonna leave a mark"? Ugh.

To me, this is shaping up to be the most disappointing Summer movie season in recent memory. With the exception of Civil War (which will hit theaters before Summer season really gets rolling) there's only ONE on that list that has me even remotely excited, Jason Bourne. Everything else is either going to be a rental or complete miss from me. :(

I wouldn't say it's "disappointing", just "unanticipated". Disappointing is something like 2007 when we had plenty of big name titles (Spider-man 3, Shrek the Third, Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Rush Hour 3, Live Free or Die Hard, etc; ) and they all more or less sucked.

Also, The Nice Guys is my single most anticipated movie this year  I also think Suicide Squad and War Dogs look entertaining, and Spielberg doing a family movie actually has me somewhat intrigued, been ages since he's done one of those.

Exactly my problems with it. it looks like a fucking terrible movie. Unfortuantley, we have a few whiners and bitchers here that like to make things into what they are not that got the last thread closed. I miagine the one of them will be along shortly to tell us that we are all misogynistic pigs.

Although not quite my most anticipated movie, I do think it looks like a lot of fun. Nowadays it needs to be a must-see to drag me to the movies (only ones I plan on seeing are Civil War, Jason Bourne and Suicide Squad), but I might just go to that one.

For some reason I thought Jackson directed that one, should have known better by the reasonable runtime.

I like how even McCarthy sees the issues when the trailer promotes this as a sequel with the "30 years ago" intro. Her comments indicate that she voiced displeasure with the trailer and was told to pound sand.

TheHive08 05-05-16 11:21 AM

Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer

The movie’s director, Paul Feig — he'll set you straight. After being slimed across the Net for almost a year, the "Freaks and Geeks" co-creator and "Bridesmaids" director trained his proton pack right back at the haters.

"Geek culture is home to some of the biggest a------s I've ever met in my life," Feig told the Daily News. "Especially after being attacked by them for months because of this 'Ghostbusters' project."

Social media trolls have been doing what they do best: slamming the chick-flick because conflict is a commodity on the web. And they did it again this week, clicking "thumbs down" so many times on YouTube that the official trailer for the reboot is now the most disliked movie preview clip in history, according to MyTop100Videos channel.

Feig has no time or patience for such ghouls, even those complaining that "SNL" star Leslie Jones' character merely plays into Hollywood's mad black woman cliché.

"I don't care what shape or size or color or anything they are," Feig said about his stars. "I live or die on what things are funny and whether or not people will be entertained by them."

Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer

Seems like it never even occurred to him that somebody may not find this trailer as funny as he apparently does. Anyone who doesn't is an asshole apparently. If he doesn't want people complaining about Leslie Jones playing the stereotypical mad black woman, perhaps he should have told her not to play the mad black woman steretype while they were filming. Just another reason to not see this movie. As if we needed another.

There is a special type of asshole in Geek Culture though. It's like they become one big annoying loud cancerous life form when they decide they want to hate something. Give them the interwebs and it spreads faster and harder.

I agree. I don't understand the thing where you don't give a film a chance. The trailer is alright (the best part being the modified theme track). But it looks fun and goofy and I hope it's good. Still hoping they address the 'parallel universe' somehow. But I don't think they will.

Isn't Feig more or less responsible for placing geek culture in the spotlight? He and his Freaks & Geeks cohorts would make up most of the short list of those responsible for where pop culture is right now.

I'm all for giving a film a chance. I'll probably be taken to this one so yay for me not paying but also.. it's not a good trailer. Like 2 or 3 possibly promising things in there but mostly it's a crap trailer.

Fathom Events is re-releasing the original on June 8th and 12th. It will be in 750 theaters at AMC, Regal and Cinemark.

I guess you can vote with your money, in a way, if you're boycotting the new movie.

I saw it in theaters last year or whatever when Cinemark was showing it. Looks great...will never look clean as hell though cuz of the stock and such. Still looked damn good considering.

If the trailer were good I'd give the movie a chance.

It's not good. It's not even mediocre. It makes the movie look awful, and not very funny.

The trailer usually makes the movie look better than it is. If that is true here this movie is gonna suck. Hard.
