If I won an Oscar my speech would be short and to the point. I would raise the award above my head and say "suck it, Christopher Nolan, you will never have one of these" and walk off. Politics always come off hokey at these events.

It's weird that Spielberg went nearly 40 years with none of his actors winning an Oscar, and now it's happened with two films in a row.

It should've happened with Ralph Fiennes.

Agreed. And perhaps Robert Shaw for Jaws.

34 million. That is so fucking far away from 1 billion. How do they substantiate those numbers? That would mean that 966 million people in foreign markets watch.

Oscars... World Cup... same difference.

In his defence, it can be easy to mix up the two events - there's a lot of acting in soccer.

I was hoping Leo was a Tesla man, but alas it doesn't appear so.

The political crap they add to acceptance speeches does annoy me - regardless if I agree with their statements or not. What makes them worse is when the person preaching has just latched onto the cause because the film they worked on deal with that issue - and then you never hear them mention it again since they've moved onto another project. I even remember Clooney and Damon showing up to the Oscars for Syriana in a Prius or something instead of a limo to make some kind of statement about oil. I haven't checked, but I'm sure they're taking limos again.

But what's even worse in an Oscar acceptance speech is the winner gushing at how important the award is - like it's going to solve major real-world issues. I especially hate when the winner mentions that the award proves that "dreams do come true". Just fuck off with that.

Here's the trailer to Leo's 2007 documentary on Global Warming - The 11th Hour

Who knew that The Man in the Iron Mask was really about the environment.

Yea, I wasn't talking about Leo specifically... just a lot of the Oscar winners/nominees in general. I know Leo's had a hard-on for the environment for a long while... and The Revenant has nothing to do with those issues.

I think the Oscars telecast too a major hit ratings-wise because a new (and important plot-wise) episode of the The Walking Dead was shown last night, too. Its similar to a situation to what happened some years ago when HBO showed a new episode of The Sopranos opposite the Oscar telecast on the US East Coast.

My guess is that the producers of the Oscar telecast could end up paying off AMC to NOT show any new episodes of The Walking Dead if it happens against next year.

Well there was the pleading for people to boycott the show. Maybe it worked.

If so it didn't by much. Last year it had a 10.8 rating and 36.6m viewers. This year it had a 10.4 rating and 34.3m viewers.

I normally tune in, but I skipped most of the night because I was tired of hearing about that Oscars So White crap, more the academy's obnoxious response than the unending need for news channels to report Twitter as news.
