Ha, I meant "somebody gave him one" as in somebody earlier in this thread. (ChadM in post #23 in particular)

That sounds completely made up. I took a look at the clip from the ceremony and it turns out Dustin Hoffman wasn't even there.

Do the Right Thing (which wasn't nominated) over Driving Miss Daisy in 1990.

And any of the other nominees (Crimes and Misdemeanors, Do the Right Thing, Sex Lies and Videotape, When Harry Met Sally) over Dead Poets Society for Original Screenplay.

What was the horrible message? I never saw the movie. I looked it and thought, Oh, a baby-boomer feel good movie. 'We were so wonderful in the 60s!' I can get that from PBS pledge week.

Watch the film again and see the treatment of characters who are trying to make a change in society. Better to do as your told and don't think about such things.

It was a loaded Best Actor year in 1990 (Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Daniel Day Lewis, & Kenneth Branagh) but I still would rather have Robin Williams won this year for Dead Poet's Society than for the "oops, our bad, we fucked up" one they gave him for Good Will Hunting.

He didn't stand a chance that year. The competition was just too tough & Oscar loves giving awards to handicapped roles.
