And hear it clearly.
I moviepassed it today.
Didn't love it but really needed a great ending to make it worth the long long wait.
My only complaint is that it felt long.
I didn't see the exact end coming but had a few guesses that are close to what it was.
My theater had about 25 people today and I think 20 of them were people late 60's and into 70's in age.
It was a quiet crowd.
The movie was very quiet for the first 20 minutes or so and the popcorn and candy bag noises were louder then the movie.

Dan that's Perfect.
I can see that very clearly being what this movie was.
While I think I knew all that I wasn't processing it correctly.
Makes me actually like the movie a lot now and look forward to the next time I see it.

The last half hour was just too much for me. Just brutally disgusting to watch at times.
This just wasn't for me, and I like most of Darren's stuff.

Darren Aronofsky's "Mother!" ranks a distant second to Albert Brooks's "Mother". And Brooks didn't even need the flashy exclamation point.

Caught this yesterday. I get what Aronofsky was going for, but I still think it's pretentious crap overall. This was definitely NOT a horror movie, though it did have some rather horrific imagery. The last third wasn't as bad as Requiem For a Dream but it was on that level. I'm surprised a studio agreed to greenlight this one, but I guess banging Jennifer Lawrence can be of benefit in that field. What's really sad is that despite this movie being a complete artistic mess, Lawrence still gives her all in the performance. Kind of a shame to know that this is going to be a notorious flop for her despite it being some of her better work from an acting perspective.

Movie would've easily benefited from losing a good 10 to 15 minutes. After a while the mounting nightmare scenario in the second half just becomes repetitive and boredom actually starts to creep in despite all the loud, biblical craziness going on. By the time Kristen Wiig pops up out of nowhere and starts executing war prisoners I was more or less just laughing at the ridiculousness of it all. That's why the baby bit wasn't unnerving/disturbing to me in the least, I'd already been disengaged completely by that point. Comparisons to A Clockwork Orange and all this talk of "the most controversial Hollywood movie in decades" and other such nonsense don't do this film any favors at all, nor did promoting it as some sort of horror movie. Law was terrific, though. I may have to check it out again with a friend who wants to see it in the middle of the week. I wonder how it might hold up after a second viewing.

I like Aronofskys other movies but this was a piece of shit. Really disappointed. The last 30 minutes just ruined what was an interesting film.

Just came back from seeing this and it is a total WTF movie. I didn't hate it, but it's very out there and I can see why mass audiences hated it, getting the dreaded "F" Cinemascore.
I read an article on Vulture that has similar thoughts on what has already been said here, but I gotta say that reading about the symbolism and allegory of the movie was more interesting than watching the actual movie.

^ If a movie is sold as one thing but turns out as something else entirely, negative audience reaction is inevitable. I was kind of glad my showing only had myself and another lone individual at the back of the room, that way I didn't have to deal with people getting antsy and making disparaging comments throughout. Not saying the movie didn't deserve it.

First 2/3rds was an interesting slow burn wondering where it was going. The last 1/3rd was f-ing craziness.
I walked out not loving it, but I think with time it will grow on me. I really need to watch it again after seeing how it played out to digest it all.

We also enjoyed "Mother!", -which we took as a metaphor for the creative process, -though the friends we saw it with were more literal-minded and somewhat flummoxed by it.

this movie was the biggest piece of shit i have ever seen.
the fact that i sat through the entire thing makes me feel stupid. This was going for shock value like crazy. torture porn to the max.
Jennifer lawrence was prob drugged to accept this role.

I love the way this film has such diverse reactions from folks.
Saw it yesterday, and was completely blown away by it. I knew nothing going in, other than it was Aronofsky, and was supposed to be strange.
Absolutely wonderful and trippy, and the 'explanation' is so clear-cut it actually makes the "weirdness" so very linear and logical.
I loved it, and want to watch it and discuss it again and again.

This is one of those movies that makes me wonder if it's intentionally terrible.
But this is from the guy that brought us Pi and that movie makes no fucking sense either.

Jennifer Lawrence Wants You to Know Her ‘mother!’ Explanation Before You See It
Between its critical acclaim and F CinemaScore, “mother!” is the movie that just keeps on giving when it comes to dividing audiences. A movie hasn’t caused this kind of vigorous reaction and theorizing among moviegoers in quite some time, and to many of us that makes “mother!” one of the most essential releases of 2017. Darren Aronofsky recently sat down with IndieWire’s Anne Thompson to reveal as many secrets as he could about “mother!,” and Jennifer Lawrence has now done the same with Entertainment Weekly.
The Oscar-winning actress didn’t exactly keep a lid on things while making the press rounds before the movie’s release (she couldn’t help but talk about the movie’s environmental themes), but now that “mother!” is out in the world Lawrence can break her silence on what she personally took away from Aronofsky’s script. More importantly, she thinks every viewer could benefit from knowing just a few things about the movie’s intentions before they actually see it.
“I got it immediately but that was because before he had sent me the script he had come to me and told me these ideas that he had for an allegory and the metaphors he wanted to work with. I was in,” Lawrence told EW. “It was the most unique sounding movie I’d ever heard, and incredibly brave. I feel like there’s different schools of thought on this movie. Some think: don’t tell anyone anything, let them figure it out on their own. I feel like it’s better to know and understand the metaphor and allegories because then you know what you are looking at. I’ve been spilling the themes and metaphors all over town!”
So what exactly are the metaphors every viewer needs to be aware of? As Lawrence explains:
Heading into “mother!” with some of the thoughts Lawrence explains here will definitely ease the viewer into Aronofsky’s madness. The first half of the movie is especially subtle with all its references, so it actually might help people to listen to Lawrence for a little pre-screening guidance. But we still think going in cold and letting the experience hit you like a shock to the gut is best. “mother!” is now playing in theaters nationwide.

What a disaster, the actress and director going out of their way to explain the masterpiece to all the sheep.
And Paramount patting themselves on the back for their daring movie.
