Free? There is nothing "free" about HBO Max at all, especially since WB's entire 2021 theatrical slate along with the recent Justice League was done to SELL subscriptions. Anyone watching this movie or anything on that platform is paying for it in some way or another man.

Re: Godzilla vs. Kong (2021, D: Wingard)

Tom and Jerry was free on HBO max and made $14 million on its opening weekend in theaters, and has made $37 Million in the US to date.

That's for a terribly reviewed movie about a 80 year old cartoon, and you think that Godzilla vs. Kong will only do $10 Million?

They're guessing $20 to $30m for the five day

Re: Godzilla vs. Kong (2021, D: Wingard)

Ok, I underestimated. My bad. And yes, I know we pay, as I pay cable bill with hbo included, thus my subscription. But, yes, of course we pay. I didn’t mean that.

Bottomline, this will not be comeback, but will hopefully pull more than normal. Just to think we are saying that $20-30 mil for a 5-day weekend for this particular monster movie that is actually getting really good reviews is kinda depressing.

Worth to see King of Monsters since that was most recent? Any ties, except for I guess, Chandler’s character?
You’re not remembering it quite right. He’s forced to seal up
Spoiler:
his own wife and doom her to her death. A little later he’s on a platform that’s knocked down by Muto, and not long after succumbs to his injuries. The rest of the movie follows his son.

I watched all three leading to this over the weekend. I don't think I've seen the first Godzilla since it came out. I enjoyed it more than I remember. That could be due to being OK with the less than expected Godzilla scenes, knowing KoM and this are after it. At the time, I don't think we knew there would even be a 2nd? Skull Island has been a favorite of mine since it released.

The theater near us last night was packed. My wife asked what is going on? I told her Godzilla vs. Kong and she laughed.

Anecdotal I know but nice to see.

$9.6m opening day. Easily the best since the pandemic shutdowns (previous being WW84 at $7.5m)

Really? I had heard that this wouldn’t make $10mil.

Also worth noting, this was the first of the 4 movies to pull an A cinemascore. The fluffiest, most meaningless metric but at least people had a good time.

It hasn't yet. It's frontloaded. Won't make another dime.

If you don't want to pay for the name brand and settle for the generic off brand.

If the movie itself is as creative as that title I think we’re all in for a treat!

It would be impossible to top Atlantic Rim anyway!

Apropos of nothing, there was a porno movie called Pacific Rimjob that predated Pacific Rim.
