Re: Most disappointing movie?
I love Crusade the most cuz it's the one that introduced me to Indy but Hokeyboy is pretty on point on it. It plays to what it is a lot. It's good, fun, and all that but... it's a safe film in structure.

Heard so many good things about it such as comparisons to Andrei Tarkovsky and Bela Tarr. I was really excited and looking forward to watching it, what a let down.

Re: Most disappointing movie?
The reason is I remember reading an interview with Lucas about how he outlined the Prequels 20%, 20%, and 60%. If you read between the lines, all the juicy stuff we were waiting for since 1983 was going to be in Episode 3, and Episode 1 and 2 would be mostly filler and setup.
In hindsight I was naive to think Lucas would pull off Episode 3 after Episode 1 and 2 had so many problems. I got caught up more in the plot points that Episode 3 was going to have, and forgot that Lucas execution was the biggest problem with the Prequels.
I actually thought Episode 3 would rival ANH & ESB, and man was high disappointed when I walked out of the theater.

Re: Most disappointing movie?
I told people in the Spring of 1999 that Eyes Wide Shut was going to be for me what the upcoming Phantom Menace was for most other movie goers. At this time I meant that it was my most anticipated movie watching experience in a decade. Turns out I was right for the wrong reasons.
Like many others have said over the years, it has aged pretty well, and I enjoy it quite a bit now. Probably seen it 10 times at least.
(I'll still always wonder if Stanley Kubrick was completely finished with it, though, when he died.)

Re: Most disappointing movie?
The biggest disappointment I ever felt in theaters was in 1999 and it wasn't Phantom Menace, Eyes Wide Shut (which I still think is a masterpiece), or Blair Witch Project. It was Magnolia. After Boogie Nights and (to a lesser extent) Hard Eight I was a massive PTA fan. The critical buzz on Magnolia was off-the-scale, on the level of a modern-day masterpiece and perhaps the best movie of the decade.
Absolutely hated it. We walked out about 90 minutes into it. Others did too. Someone gave the screen the finger and the audience erupted with laughter. I went to go see it again, thinking I might have been in the absolute wrong frame of mind that night. I wasn't. It was still that bad. A cheap, shallow mess of a film.
I don't hate it as much as I used to, but it probably remains my biggest disappointment.
I bought in to the hype and saw it 4 times in theaters. It's still one of my favorite films of all time, and I can't even count how many times I've seen it.
I was completely engaged in all the different characters for the whole 3 hours and probably would have watched a 4-hour cut if it was available.
Check out Inherent Vice if you want to see PTA (who is still my favorite director, although losing steam lately) make a piece of shit.

Re: Most disappointing movie?
I'm a fan of The Phantom Menace as well as Magnolia.
Most disappointing movie, I'm going with Casino Royale - 2006. The Daniel Craig Bonds just doesn't cut it for me and I like Daniel Craig (as an actor).

Because I am a fan of his films and just to make sure I wasn't missing anything, I've seen Magnolia 3 times. I still believe that except for Tom Cruise's performance, it's a 3 hour turd

Re: Most disappointing movie?
Since he died 3 or 4 months before the movie opened, I find it hard to believe he wouldn't have continued tinkering with Eyes Wide Shut (shit, he had a change made to The Shining after it was already in theatres).

"You call me lady? You make your phone calls and ask me questions? Fuck you! Suck my dick!"
And...
"I've fucked other men...I've sucked other men's caaaaaaaaaaaawcks!"
It is some of the worst over acting I have ever seen.

Did you see Ant Man : Quantamania? Because it's easily worse than both of those films.

Not yet, but haven’t heard good things. That I’m not expecting much. Liked but no fondness for series. Thor was totally disappointing after loving 3 so much.

Milla Jovovich coming off Resident Evil 1 and 2, Kurt Wimmer coming off of Equilibrium - I was hyped as could be for 2006's Ultraviolet.
God, that movie sucked. The CGI was terrible, the story was terrible, the acting was terrible. I've seen worse movies, but this was the case with the biggest disparity from what I expected and what was actually delivered.

I saw Magnolia at the theater when it was first released and I am convinced that it hasn't actually ended.
