Re: Blade Runner -- help me dear God...
Sometimes movies just don't connect with you at all. I went through this with Eternal Sunshine of the Eternal Mind. (Watched it 3 times) Eventually I just had to come to grips with the fact that it is one of the stupidest and most dreary and worst movies of all time and that those that love it are just plain wrong

Hah, I think anybody that watched Eternal Sunshine understood it. But it is a very heavy movie which is not everybody's cup of tea.

Damn dude I keep watching Blade Runner now. I am surprised at how big of a fan I am now after despising the film at first. I have watched it twice in the past week and will probably watch it again this week. I actually hate they are doing a sequel, I am worried it is going to tarnish the original.

I hated Blade Runner the first time I saw it. I think was around eleven at the time and despite being into science fiction, the movie bored the shit out of me. It was dark and talky and hard to follow.
It wasn't until I watched the movie again when I was in my early twenties that I fell in love with it.

I started Blade Runner again last night
I pick up new things each viewing.
I really love Sean Youngs performance.
i need to watch the theatrical version. I have been just watching the Final Cut the past 5 viewings. I want to see how rough it was in the first version. It has been probably a decade or more since i saw that version.

I never get bored of this movie as each time i see something new in it. The performances, especially from Rutger, are very nuanced. Each aspect of the movie is its own character....the lighting, the cinematography, the model and FX work, the music. Rarely do all these things compliment each other to such an extent. The music especially really gives the feel of the city. The documentaries that have been created for the movie are all fascinating as well, along with the book Future Noir which is a superb read. I used to collect memorabilia from the movie, but my collection is sparse the days. The only main things i still have are a shooting script that was used on set, a large collection of Syd Mead designs for the movie and some large photos for a portfolio.

what is everyone's favorite scene?
I think mine is the showdown with Priss in Sebastian's home. It is such a cool shot where Deckard walks in the room with all the toys and Priss frozen under the veil. It is beautiful and creepy at the same time.

I actually watch the workprint version almost as much as I watch the Final Cut version.
Ever since reading about all the differences in the book Future Noir, I desperately wanted to see that version.
When I finally did get to I was not disappointed.
However, I don't know if I would recommend watching it until you've really grown the love the film and have watched it enough that it fits like an old glove. Then, watching the workprint version is like a revelation.
Some things were "fixed" or improved in later versions sure, but sometimes seeing things rougher, different cuts of scenes, new scenes, different music, etc. is just so refreshing and nice. It's a little disorienting and strange but creates that feeling of alienation and confusion that enhances a viewing of the film rather that detracting from it.

Re: Bladerunner -- help me dear God...
There are a lot of alternate and deleted scenes in the supplements of the multi-disc blu-ray sets though. They're kind of cool because they can be watched with a Play All option that runs about 48 minutes and presents them in a chronological order so it plays like a weird little disjointed alternate version of Blade Runner.

I LOOOOVE This film and I NEVER get bored with it. Thing is, I never bought any of the box sets to view the alternate stuff. I will one day.

just saw 'The Final Cut' over on the big screen at AFI Silver - wow! I think I ever time I see it, I discover something new - but in THX sound Vangelis' score was incredibly nuanced and dynamic
