Looking for horror
I would love some recommendations on any good horror films (past and present) that I should look into. I haven't kept up too much on the Indy scene lately, so any recommendations on what to buy would be helpful. Want to gear up for the October challenge.

It Follows
Here Comes The Devil
I Saw the Devil
I Saw the Devil is more thriller/horror but... you should just watch it for.... everything cuz it's insanely solid and slick as a motherfucker. Damn those South Koreans.

Thanks! I was actually pretty pissed when I saw It Follows. The last half was ugh. Thought The Babadook was way better. Here Comes The Devil looks spooky! I'll def pick that up and maybe I Saw the Devil.

Re: Looking for horror
I know the spooky pale Asian girl thing has become a cliche now. But "A Tale of Two Sisters" (the original Korean movie) bothered the daylights out of me back in 2007. I remember catching it on IFC or Sundance. And I had to calm myself down before going to sleep. Something about leering into dark unknown spaces.
I bumped the "Sinister" thread a few weeks ago after watching it on SyFy. I thought it was great. It was spooky. The story was interesting. Many elements didn't pan out in a traditional manner. And I really liked the score and the way it was shot.

For semi new films I'd say to give The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers a look. I'm normally not as into modern horror films but both of these are done by the same director (Ti West) who makes cool throwback films that feel almost like 80s horror films released in modern times.
Other than that looking at your previous lists you've probably seen a lot of the classics. Some I've picked up/watched recently are Dolls, The Howling, Night of the Comet (more of an end of the world thriller with some horror aspects but very entertaining), Monky Shines, Night of the Demons. I'm a big fan of Shout Factory's Scream Factory line of titles.

Reminds me of a misunderstanding I had with my dad when I was a kid.
I kept saying WHORE WHORE WHORE WHORE WHORE movie! I was getting annoyed. He was thinking, "oh my god, my 9 year old kid is asking me about porn already" (this was pre-internet, and I come from the most sexually oppressed house on the block). No, HARR-ER. GAWWWW.

Re: Looking for horror
For good freaky-deaky fun: House on Haunted Hill. Old and remake. Both very good. I hope William Malone gets a big budget again someday. He made the remake, and then FearDotCom (which had its moments) and then sort of disappeared with a few no-name DTV flicks. Someone give that man $50M to make another fun horror movie.
While going freaky, fun, and energetic, also do Return of the Living Dead. Reanimator. Braindead.

I keep seeing that on Netflix (I believe Netflix). What is it about anyways?
Great suggestions and added a few to my Amazon wish list. Loved Sinister and cannot wait for part 2 in August. Wasn't a big fan of You're Next and the Innkeepers let me down (the reveal really). Love the old school list as well. Dolls was trippy.

The Guest is part Bourne Identity, part slasher flick, not much of a horror flick but I like it Plus it's on Netflix

Wrong Turn (just the first one, don't bother with the lame sequels)
Wolf Creek
House of 1000 Corpses ( I LOVE this one, but I don't think it is very highly though of by most so YMMV)
Cabin in the Woods
