Re: Looking for horror
Speaking of Jarmusch, he did his own recent vampire movie Only Lovers Left Alive. I liked it over A Girl Walks Alone ... helped greatly by wonderful performances by Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton.
Sticking with vampire movies, if you're up for a horror-comedy What We Do in the Shadows is a great deal of fun (it's by the creators of Flight of the Conchords, to give you an idea of the humor).
Another recent one I've seen and enjoyed is Spring. Though not if you're looking for scary horror. It may be more one you could watch with girlfriend/wife. I love when movies start off as one thing and then effectively change gears to become something else. This starts as a travel romance (in the vein of Before Sunrise) that takes a turn into horror/sci-fi, while still remaining a romance throughout.

Primal - a low-budget indie movie from Australia; very much a B movie, but kinda fun.

Afflicted was a pretty good entry in the found footage genre.

Housebound was a lot of fun (and is streaming on Netflix). Rotten Tomatoes sums it up well as "the rare horror-comedy that delivers on both fronts".

LOVED Cabin in the Woods and House of 1000 Corpses is one, if not, my favorite horror film. I actually saw a posting by Rob Zombie and some people in the movie giving out respects to the fallen actors in the film. I think there are about 8 actors/actresses from the film that have passed away.

As for me, In the last 10 or so years I enjoyed The Hills Have Eyes (remake), Last House on the Left (remake), Hostel, Saw (the first one only), The Orphanage, The Uninvited (the remake of A Tale of Two Sisters), Drag Me to Hell, Orphan, and The Cabin In the Woods.

Re: Looking for horror
I just saw a couple of good ones (with very different styles) streaming on Netflix:
Honeymoon is a creepy slow-build horror movie. And if you're a Game of Thrones watcher, it's cool to see what projects its alumni have been up to. This stars Rose Leslie (Ygritte aka "You know nothing, Jon Snow).
Killers is a Japanese/Indonesian co-production about dueling serial killers communicating with each other from their respective countries (as their relationship morphs from fandom, mentorship, friendship, and enemies). A bit overlong but well-done.
Both got good reviews from DVD Talk official reviewers, if that means anything to you

I'll check those two out. And I loved Martyers. A friend from high school told me about it and it was very interesting.

The only one I really disliked was Wer but the majority seems to dig it, so I included it here. I was on the fence with Haunter but it kind of grew on me after repeated viewings. If anything, I think the rest is at least worth a rental if you don't have super-high standards. There are certainly worse movies out there.
