One of the few animated movies I really like. Not a big fan of the Pixar movies and all that. Townshend's album is really good but the previous poster was correct as it is really a Who album. Quite good though.

Agreed. Unless somebody starts seeing similar tweets by Bird going the other direction, I'm banking on him carrying out he plans he tweeted earlier and seeing this through to the end.

All these people here who have similar tastes to mine love that movie. I watched it a couple years ago, and I didn't like it. I thought it was heavy-handed and mawkish.

Of course, I'm also one of the few people who doesn't like E.T., for much the same reasons.

I seem to be one of the few that didn't care for Iron Giant either. I'd probably give it another chance though.

I think The Iron Giant bombed at the box office in 1999 for these reasons:
- it lacked a well-known name for feature length animation (Warner animation) and lacked any of that studio's best known characters (Bugs Bunny, etc.)
- it lacked a well-known director (Brad Bird was virtually unknown in 1999)
- despite opening in August, when competition usually is lighter, it had the bad luck of opening at the same time as a film that turned out into a mega-hit: The Sixth Sense and it got steamrolled by the competition

In some ways, The Iron Giant is like Blade Runner in that both bombed at the box office due to competing against a box office juggernaut (E.T. in the case of BR) but each found their audience later via home video (VHS and/or DVD) and cable tv.

Looks like two showtimes are available: September 30th (Wednesday) at 7:30 pm, and the encore is October 4th (Sunday) at noon. More info and ticket sales are at http://www.fathomevents.com/event/th...edition-encore.

Re-release trailer: https://www.yahoo.com/movies/watch-t...660292562.html.

Already got my tickets for the Sunday show...my wife and I are big fans of this, and our daughter just started watching it obsessively last week. Can't wait to finally see it on the big screen!

So I really want to take the family to this but non-matinee pricing for a 15 year old flick sucks. $46 to see something I can walk over to the shelf and pop in is just too rich for my blood.

Yeah, I'll probably be doing the sunday one at noon. 12.50$ is nothing.

I'd go if it wasn't Fathom Events.

Yeah, plus the small "convenience fee" is another small slap in the face, and the lack of kids ticket prices is a bummer (let's be honest, very few non-families will be going to this). But I really love this movie and, like everyone else, missed seeing it the first time around...plus the new mastering and bonus scenes put it over the top. And my daughter, who has no idea we're going, will be thrilled.

I'm also hoping to score a poster or two, since they usually give those out to early attendees. My parents went to see "Back to the Future" for its 25th Anniversary re-release and got a whole pile of posters because the turnout was less than expected.

Yeah, Fathom simulcast instead of a real screening sucks.

I can't take my family of 5 to this for Fathom prices. Regular evening prices at the theater where it is showing are 9.49 and matinee prices are 4.29. For this they want 12.50 on both dates.

Thanks, but no thanks.

I have never had an issue walking into the auditorium that is playing a fathom event or flashback screening where they charge more for a screening with my matinee ticket for whatever they have playing at the time.

I will go to the Sunday showing. I have never been to a Fathom event and I have a Fandango gift card that will make it a freebie.
