The Nightmare -- June 6th -- documentary/horror

Well now, that's a creepy trailer. Can't wait to see this!

Curious about this one. Room 237 was laughable shit, but it had a phenomenal score. I've heard this one is horrify at times, unintentionally funny at others.

Re: The Nightmare -- June 6th -- documentary/horror

I routinely have sleep-paralysis. On one occasion I thought I saw a "shadow person" coming into my apartment, other times I've imagined other things, like crows flapping their wings around my head and small animals perching on the back of my neck and nipping at me. This is a phenomena I find fascinating.

The trailer gives off the vibe this is going to be a collection of sensational anecdotes mixed with a lot of fancy editing and little real analysis.

Like Room 237, this looks like another big waste of time. *

(* Sure, I could be wrong. Maybe it's brilliant, but I won't be in any rush to give it a chance.)

I'm not familiar with Room 237, but after looking it up I'm going to check it out. You two are appear to be in the very small minority of not liking it. I see overwhelmingly positive reviews of it.

This board really disliked Room 237. I don't know why. Maybe because they took all the oddball theory's to heart and couldn't see all the absurdness in it. I thought it was hilarious.

That's the problem, though; Ascher doesn't present it like it's supposed to be funny. He lends far too much time to crackpots and their outlandish theories. It felt like I was watching a YouTube conspiracy video.

Which Room 237? All I find on that is some documentary on the Shining or something - why would anyone get overly excited for that anyway (If that is in fact the movie we're talking about)?

Can't watch the trailer as my job blocks it but I may try watching it on my phone in a bit.

I've had similar hallucinations, although not quite as graphic as yours and quite brief, not as extended in time as the ones in that trailer, but I always figured it was because of the meds I was taking after my heart attack.

The one thing I find fascinating about this is why they always see (well for the most part always) evil images.

I know there is some explanation of a component in the brain but it still doesn't explain in full why there tends to always be such horrific imagery - your brain is conjuring up images of fanatasy creatures that one normally has no connection with whatsoever - meaning they are seeing and describing things that are accurate but that they would have no idea on as they do not interact with any form of media (i.e. movies, books, as an example) that exposes them to such imagery on the regular.

Meh, I'm not a fan of documentaries that use re-creations for the majority of the film. Judging by the trailer that's exactly what we're going to get.

Given the title, the image of the "shadow man" in the hat, and the evil voice, did anyone else think this was a new Nightmare on Elm St. film?

Re: The Nightmare -- June 6th -- documentary/horror

As someone who suffers from sleep paralysis on a weekly basis, this looks interesting.
Sleep paralysis is scary shit. No matter how many times I have gone through it, it's frightening every time.
I've seen things many times and whether it's just during the partial sleep, it's scary.

Room 237 was OK I guess. I didnt hate it but I wasn't totally into it either.

I've been wracking my brain, trying to remember any instances of benign images, and you're right, all I can remember are things I felt very threatened by.

I also find it interesting that so many people report the same image of these "shadow people". I only saw that once, in 1999, long before I'd heard or read anything about this, so I wasn't just copying stories I'd heard, my brain came up with that image all on its own. Why is this image so common?

I've experienced it twice and it was the most traumatizing fear I ever experienced. It would take me many days for the symptoms of fear recollection to wear off.

Re: The Nightmare -- June 6th -- documentary/horror

So did anyone give this a watch?
It was OK. I was happy to see they experience the same things as I do so it doesn't make me feel like a total schizo. While it didnt really explain anything, I dont think that was the point. I'm glad they didnt because the tone of this would have been changed and I probably would have turned it off.
The one thing I was able to take away from it was that my family was watching with me and they now know why I do what I do sometimes when I sleep and not think I'm a weirdo. The grunting. The movements. The screaming.

It was available for rent on vudu for .99 so I said why not.........I had to turn it off after about 20 minutes in....beyond boring and the imagery did nothing for me.
