Re: Favorite Movie in Marvel's Cinematic Universe?
EDIT: Guess not.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the shared movie universe directly created by Marvel Studios, now owned by Disney. In other words, they all exist in the one universe that they are in. So Guardians of the Galaxy? They exist in the same reality that IM, Cap, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, and whomever else we've seen in the films by the studio.
Fox owns X-Men and Fantastic Four properties, with some interesting rights details for some characters in there.
Sony has Spider-Man
Universal has Namor
Lionsgate possibly still has Man-Thing.
They're Marvel characters but not made by Marvel Studios.

I laughed too many times. Some of the subtleties were golden as well. Loved the homages and Starlord coming up in the ship like Lando did was outstanding.

As far as Cap, Iron Man, Thor and those guys are concerned, the X-Men don't even exist. It's a studio thing, mostly.

Will vote after I watch Guardians tomorrow... so far Avengers is still #1 for me, with Iron Man and Winter Soldier right behind it.

Having just returned from Guardians, im gonna change my vote to Guardians of the Galaxy as my favourite in the MCU. 7 out of 10.
As for Marvel characters though, they all fall a distant second to a good X Men movie.

The Avengers is still my one to beat - 2nd place is a tie between GotG and Winter Soldier.

Guardians is easily my favorite as far as initial viewings go. The movie was a blast and I really have no complaints. Most fun I've had at the theater since Serenity (and I already had investment in those characters).

3. Captain America: The First Avenger
4. Iron Man
5. Thor: The Dark World
6. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
7. Iron Man 2
8. Iron Man 3
9. Thor
10. The Incredible Hulk
1. Guardians of the Galaxy
2. The Avengers
3. Captain America: The First Avenger
4. Iron Man

Back from watching Guardians, and Avengers still takes the crown for me. Even now re-watching Avengers I still have some excitement seeing all the characters on screen and interacting so well and perfectly together. While fun, I don't think Guardians came anywhere near approaching that level of excitement overall. I'm sure my overall rankings have mixed things around over time, but currently right now:
1. Avengers
2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
3. Iron Man
4. Guardians of the Galaxy
5. Captain America
6. Thor 2
7. Thor
8. Iron Man 2
9. Incredible Hulk
10. Iron Man 3
Also, this look back from Marvel seems appropriate.

4. Guardians of the Galaxy

6. Thor 2
7. Thor

I can't and won't choose between The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy
2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
3. The Avengers
4. Iron Man
5. Thor
6. Iron Man 2
7. Captain America (I'll be honest, I still think this is a bland film, but it's continuity with Avengers and, especially, Winter Soldier has caused it to rise in my rankings)
8. Iron Man 3
9. Thor: The Dark World
10. The Incredible Hulk (Back in April, I re-watched both this and the Ang Lee film for the first time in years. While Lee's film retains it's "WTF?" feeling, it still manages to feel more memorable than IH. I also hate Hulk's look here...Mostly his eyes)
2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
3. The Avengers
4. Iron Man
5. Thor
6. Iron Man 2

Ahh, I see. Not sarcasm, I just could give 2 shits about what studio is making what shitty comic book movie, or who owns the rights.

Easily GOTG for me at this point. Although I enjoy the MCU movies and X-Men I never feel especially compelled to see them again. GOTG is different. I could see me watching it several times. It's just fun, and a throwback to the upbeat magical movie blockbusters of the past.

Re: Favorite Movie in Marvel's Cinematic Universe?
I voted The Avengers although GOTG is in 2nd place for me now.
My overall rankings:
1. The Avengers (2012)
2. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
3. Iron Man (2008)
4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
5. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
6. Iron Man 3 (2013)
7. The Incredible Hulk (2008)
8. Iron Man 2 (2010)
9. Thor: The Dark World (2013)
10. Thor (2011)
BTW, I re-watched The Incredible Hulk just a few weeks ago and think that it's the most underrated of the MCU films. I think it's well-made, has a plot that's structurally similar to the basic plot from the first Iron Man, and overall made up for the weirdly edited mess of a movie titled Hulk that Ang Lee turned out. (The only thing I would change in TIH is substitute Mark Ruffalo in the main role for Ed Norton, who's ok in it but does seem miscast as Bruce Banner.)
My overall rankings:
1. The Avengers (2012)
2. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
3. Iron Man (2008)
4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
5. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

8. Iron Man 2 (2010)
9. Thor: The Dark World (2013)

I totally agree that Robert Downey Jr. is absolutely perfect as Tony Stark / Iron Man - but I think the best movie featuring that character is The Avengers and not any of the standalone Iron Man movies.

Re: Favorite Movie in Marvel's Cinematic Universe?
1. Avengers (so many ways to get it wrong, but managed to get it right)
2. Iron Man (an era of decent and true-to-the-source-material comic book movies begins again)
3. Guardians of the Galaxy (fun, daring, funny)
4. Captain America: The First Avenger (captured the essence of Cap and stayed true to the comics)
5. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (doesn't "deserve" to be this low, but the ones above it are just so "right")
6. Thor (I know many hate the Earth stuff, but I enjoyed it)
7. Iron Man 3 (I usually watch a movie and enjoy the ride, but there were too many "plot holes" for me; also too dark, too many attempts to out-do Avengers on blowing stuff up; wasted opportunities with the lame villains)
8. Thor: The Dark World (good performances by Hiddleston and Hemsworth, and the final battle with the dimension-hopping propped it above the last two on my list)
9. Iron Man 2 (weak villains, loose plot, felt like a film just made to set things up for Avengers)
10. Incredible Hulk (didn't like a lot of the choices; felt it strayed too much from the source material as it grasped too hard to the TV show)
Overall, Marvel is killing it with casting. I also really enjoy that they're embracing the characters without trying to make them dark and brooding like comics and genre movies are trending.
Sorry for all the unasked for extra comments. I don't get a chance to post much, but I read a lot of the threads. Sometimes I just mix all my thoughts into a single post.
