For some reason, there is a tendency to report Theater Count as Screen Count these days. With some theaters showing it up to 48 times a day, I'm pretty sure this can pull a ridiculous amount. And many of those Best Per Theater Averages aren't filling up nearly that many outside of maybe Grand Budapest Hotel ($202,000 PTA). Though a $202k PTA in 4200 theaters would be an absurd $840m.

I honestly don't think the boxing match will mean shit to the opening of this...Prom's on the other hand could.

This made $27.6m last night, the first Avengers pulled $18.7m.
If anything, that Boxing Match will make the movie do better. I imagine most will be watching it in bars and not paying the $100 PPV fee, they'll want to drop the kids off at the theater and scoop em up after.
And I say that because who under 35 still watches regular boxing?

Deadline is now reporting the film is on-track for a possible 213m opening, but that means it could be really tight, final numbers on Monday could easily be off by 5m+, so it may still end up being the second highest grossing film on opening weekend. My $$$ will have to be counted next weekend, as there is nothing exciting opening next weekend, so it is a perfect weekend to see the film (less frenetic), and I feel this is a good weekend to do some chores (laundry, oil change, both a bit overdue anyway).

Saturday's numbers are the ones to focus on.

I'm guessing high 220s to low 230s. It did $200 million internationally and opened higher than the first Avengers and Iron Man 3 in almost all markets.

From Deadline:
Deadline has received a new updated set of industry estimates showing Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron clocking toward the highest opening single day of all-time with $94M-$97M, blowing away previous champ 2011’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II which made $91.07M. That figure includes the $27.6M from Thursday night shows. Opening FSS for Ultron still speeding toward an all-time bow. We’re hearing as high as $217M-$220M.

They adjusted Friday estimates from $95 to $84.46.
So Ultron did about $4.5m less business on Friday than Avengers 1, but eeks out a slightly higher gross due to Thursday showings.

Right now, unless it has a big Saturday increase, it's going to struggle to get to a $200M OW. Poor Disney.

Dang, yeah it looks like it will not beat the OW for Avengers 1.
Deadline is speculating mayweather pacquiao will have an affect too.

Yeah, hate to project it's entire run before the opening wknd is over, but looks like it'll have a dip in domestic (500-550m), but will make it up with an increase overseas... still gets to 1.5B.

I'm a little surprised to see the drop in the daily and weekend estimate, as it seems like there's more screens showing this in theaters then i've seen for any other movie.

Screens are a bit less than the first one surprisingly... and the 3d won't be as high of a % - which is prob the difference in $$ this wknd.

The Mayweather/Pacqiao fight tonight is undoubtedly going to cut into its overall weekend gross. That is a certainty.
