I will say that Mad Max will more than likely beat the hell out of Pitch Perfect 2 internationally.

That's pretty much a given, very few Amurrican comedies translate to big international $$.

Now what on Earth would the Supreme Court say?

Is this the first time someone is actually asking for a comparison between a movie's third weekend in theaters vs another movie's opening weekend? Avengers will likely have banked $400 - $500 mil before its third weekend. What does it matter?

I'm much more concerned with Fantastic Four's 37th day in theaters vs Avengers 2's 2nd.

You're fucking bonkers if you think Mad Max beats AoU. No goddamn way.
It's not just today's audience. Mad Max has never appealed to the mainstream period.

A lot of you are also expecting AoU to have massive drops when history shows us the first film had very minimal drops (compared to most blockbusters) as it went from weekend-to-weekend.

The first film ended up with a 3x multiplier. If the second performs similar and does an opening weekend of $220M, it'll end up with a total domestic box office gross of $660M.

I think Mad Max: FR is going to be a bomb, unfortunately.

It does have Dredd written all over it. Looks fucking epic, though!

One of these direct and unpretentious sci-fi flicks have to break through sometime. I think it's a fresh takes on the properties and has a lot of potential.

Disclaimer: I'm just assuming the Dredd comparisons are valid. Direct and straightforward storytelling. Almost real-time plot. Simple and uncomplicated. A visceral experience.

Hell, I'm the right age and demo for Max and I never saw the originals and because of that have zero interest in this one.

Same here, except I have watched the original movie, and I hated it. Therefore I have zero interest in ever seeing the sequels. I know people say the second movie is better, but I simply do not care.

All I know is, my money is going to Mad Max. We made the mistake of wasting money on 4 tickets on the last Avengers. Not this time.

I hope it makes enough for a sequel. That's the most I'm asking of it to make w/ the $$$. At $150 million, it'd be a very expensive thing to have as the Dredd of the year. I hope it isn't the Dredd of the year.

You say that like its a bad thing. Not every movie has to appeal to everyone. Besides I am sure there are women who will dig it, and teens who are old enough to see it. I love that Warner Bros has the balls to make an R rated summer action flick.

They've had success w/ it. R rated films making bank. It's possible that this is a good thing for them.

So people are thinking Avengers will do upwards of $500 million domestic?

Some think it'll do better than the first Avengers ($623m domestic), others like yours truly, thinks it'll do a good bit less.

I think it will certainly be really big, but not sure it will be as good of a movie and might not have that momentum and timing the first had. Would be shocked if it wasn't 20% or more less than the original.

I think it'll be a better movie than the first one. The first one doesn't have that great of a script, still loved it though.

I have tried to remain completely spoiler free but was taken unawares by a couple of trailers on TV. Was not impressed.

AoU will do $500M domestically. That's not an estimate or prediction, that's a guarantee.

I'm sure it'll do well without your 4 tickets.

Not at all. I was simply comparing it to the movie in question, Avengers 2 which does appeal to pretty much everyone.

I think he's saying that in context of this thread and box office take though.

As for Avengers, the early buzz has been great so if it holds up and manages to maintain the hype and word of mouth, I think it will be close to the first one.
