Back to the Future theatrical revival (How likely?)
So, last year Ghostbusters got a brief theatrical revival for its 30th anniversary. Should it not be appropriate that for Back to the Future's 30th Anniversary, it be given the same treatment? Sure, there doesn't seem to be a 4K restored re-release on Blu-ray (that I know of) to coincide. But, DAMMIT, it's Back to the Future! It freaking deserves the same consideration.
Tell me this wouldn't rock to see on the big screen again: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/4Obt_Pe87is" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Also, do you think there will be a segment on BTTF at this year's Oscars? |
I was hoping Jaws would get one for its 40th anniversary this year. They made a new digital master for he Blu-ray (2K?), and it was beautiful, I think approved by Spielberg, maybe they could release it as a DCP. The transfer for the BD was gorgeous, and I'll never get to see it in 35mm. I think there's a DCP of BTTF, I've seen it show up as part of "classics series" and such at various cinemas from time-to-time.

They did this is 2010 for the Bluray release.

BTTF 2 should get a release.

Re: Back to the Future theatrical revival (How likely?)
I'd like to see it back in theaters but I doubt either of my local theaters would get it anyways.

Nah, I'll just watch this in my home theater. Besides, Drafthouses have done a couple of screenings of the trilogy already over the past 6 months or so. But I doubt Universal will do any kind of formal re-release.

One of my friends has a 35mm print of the first movie. He also had a DeLorean for a while too but ended up selling it. These movies were 1.85 so at least they'd look decent on the bass-ackwards screens of most new theaters.

Re: Back to the Future theatrical revival (How likely?)
I saw it as a kid in the theater and then during a special 80's night a couple of years ago, so I'm okay with watching my Blu-Ray from here on out...

A friend and I went to see BTTF when it was re-released in 2010. We sat in the theater for 45 minutes while they tried to get the computer to work but it ended up crashing. In the end they came in and told us they couldn't get the movie to work and gave us all free tickets to another movie. We saw The Town instead.

It's great living in a legitimate city. They been playing Back to the Future at the E Street Cinema in Washington D.C. at Midnight for several years now.

Just picked up my tickets to a screening of the trilogy here in Manhattan! Cannot wait. Haven't seen II or III in a theater since their original run.
