But I don't know what it would take for Murphy to go in that direction.
On the other hand, if Chevy Chase went in that direction, I don't think anyone would notice--or care. Bill Murray kind of fills that niche already. And, to a lesser extent, Dan Aykroyd.

What made Eddie Murphy special was his brash, outspoken youthfulness. A central theme of his most successful movies was a smart, underprivileged black guy fighting the system.
As he became a too-successful magastar, that quality disappeared along with it.

It's really why a lot of comedians who big megastars in Comedy drop off. It's hard to write observational stand up material about every day life things when you a hit a certain level of fame and wealth where you become removed from them.

Arnold and Sly.
-Both action stars of the 80's that faded out in the late 90's
-Both tried comedy when they were at the height of their career
-Both ended up doing 'old man' action movies like The Expendables in the 00's.
-In the end, Arnold had many more successful blockbuster movies where Stallone will be pretty much known for Rocky and Rambo.
I think the difference is Eddie Murphy could still be an A-list movie star if he wanted to be, where Chevy Chase hasn't been an A-lister since the late 80's/early 90's. Chevy Chase just flat out became unfunny sometime in the late 80's and his Late Night pretty much ended his career. I say this as a HUGE Chevy Chase fan (Caddyshack, Vacation, Fletch), but I cringe when he does an interview these days as he just isn't funny at all.
Eddie Murphy just got older and couldn't be a 50 year old brash edgy performer he was in his 20's. The flashes of greatness are still there when he wants to be funny, as he did a few minutes of Standup last year at a Lifetime Achievement Award Ceremony. His 2 minutes of Bill Cosby showed that he still has it, and he did a killer impression of Tracey Morgan too. I think Murphy became TOO big and he knows he couldn't sustain that type of edginess, so he started making more family type comedies like Dr. Doolittle, Nutty Professor, etc. He talked to Ellen about why he will never do standup again: He said no comedian just goes out and does a standup special cold turkey, as you have to work the clubs and try different jokes. The problem is he is so big now he can't walk into a small club and just try new material, as that would be a huge story. He said going back to the clubs is like shaking the rust off when you haven't played a sport in a while, so I don't think he will ever come back for standup.

Lawrence also has an Oscar but Shailene looks like the type that would fight till she gets one so the jury is still out on that one

I feel like there's been a go to blonde indie actress every decade dating back to the 70's that appear in similarly regarded indie/avant garde pictures.
Michelle Williams in 00's/10's
Chloe Sevigny in the 90's/00's
Jennifer Jason Leigh in the 80's/90's
Gena Rowlands in the 70's/80's
Michelle Williams in 00's/10's

Goldie Hawn and her daughter Kate Hudson. After some early career promise that included an Oscar nomination and/or win, went on to appear in mostly forgettable comedies but with an occasional dark turn.

Margot Robbie and Michelle Pfeffer. Margot also reminds me of Jennifer Lawrence, but with less crazy hype and more likeable.

Just curious, but how do you equate Robbie and Pfeiffer when such different ages and career thus far. Robbie just beginning. Pfeiffer, not so much. Robbie hasn’t made a Grease 2 as far as I know...
