I can't for the life of me figure out how Saving Christmas made nearly $3m. Yet a movie with Simon Pegg and Rosamund Pike did less.

* Production Budget in millions. On average, studios earn approximately 55 percent of the final gross.

There's no way to fairly gauge how Hobbit 3 did since it opened on Wednesday and Smaug had happened on a Friday, but $90m since Wednesday is neither spectacular nor bad. Night at the Museum has a long road ahead of it to re-coup its $127m budget, but there is still a chance since most schools are out over the next two weeks, same goes for Annie (just to humor myself, Annie has the same budget as the first Matrix movie). I kind of wish Horrible Bosses 2 did better, I actually really enjoyed it despite the critical spanking it received, it should do well on video for fans of Workaholics and Always Sunny.

Interstellar is doing incredibly strong mid-week business still, so despite falling out on the top 10, it still has a bit of life left in it. Exodus has made about $100m world wide so far, and will need overseas grosses to lift it into profitability (if it's going to happen).

P.K. is a Bollywood flick that is basically a mix of E.T. and Mr. Bean, and is the second highest grossing per theater movie in the top 10.

For this past weekend. Unbroken did much, much better than I was anticipating. The Interview was only shown locally at 11:50 PM for some reason, not sure how many theaters pulled that same crap.

Despite all the speculation that it was going to be a giant bomb, it has already grossed $45m in 10 days and was up weekend-to-weekend (to be fair, the only major titles that were down were Hobbit and Exodus). So it's doing pretty decently.

Fox is having a rough go at it as both Penguins of Madagascar and Exodus are tanking pretty bad stateside (though Penguins is a pretty solid hit overseas).

Both probably skew a little more towards older audiences, who're probably interested and have the free time to see it. Plus there's the obvious Oscar attention. Same with Unbroken, obviously of interest to the WWII and Baby Boomers.

It's impressive regardless, that's the 2nd or 3rd highest PTA this year (For American Sniper. I think Grand Budapest Hotel was #1 with $202,000 per theater).

Edit: Had to check BOM:

#1. Grand Budapest Hotel - $202,792 (4 theaters)
#2. American Sniper - $152,500 (4 theaters)
#3. The Imitation Game - $119,838 (4 theaters)
#4. Birdman - $106,099 (4 theaters)

Into the Woods! Still have no idea who the audience for this thing is other than theater nerds. And yeah, it's a Disney-branded musical, but it's not kid fare.

It has a 93% on rotten tomatoes with 14 reviews, the only negative one gave it 2.5 out of 4 and said it didn't say enough about a culture that would care about such a thing.
