She is just one of those people that i find hard to watch in any movie as her face is just so fucking weird. The fact she was topless in that scene was completely gratuitous and not needed at all. The fact she has horrible tits just makes the scene distracting.

I guess in retrospect the actresses in this movie not being in my eyes beautiful is perfect casting. Whenever i see a lot of these kind of models in real life i find them ugly and strange looking rather than classically beautiful. Skeletons on legs are not my thing. Give me curves any day.

Well, I loved this one but still not sure what I just watched. Obviously I will have to give another view (or two) - Refn has a F'd up mind love his movies.

I re-watched this for the first time since I saw it during it's limited Theatrical run.

I enjoyed the film a whole lot more this time around. Maybe watching it from the comfort of home changed my view on it or maybe I had more time to process what I was seeing.

I believe my initial issue with the ending was that
Spoiler:
I wanted a really straight-forward and 'stupid' ending, where 'The Neon Demon' would come out of Jesse and she would kill the rest of the girls during the mini-chase scene in the house, echoing her line about being called 'dangerous' by her mother.

Wow, this was a complete waste of time. An utterly vacuous film about utterly vacuous people. Refn has lost his touch. I was hoping Only God Forgives was a fluke but this confirms that he's basically making feature length music videos at this point.

I did like Keanu in it though.

This was one of my favorite movies of the year. I love movies that make me think.

I do as well, I actually think Drive is Refn's least interesting movie, though I did enjoy it.

I like Drive a lot but would not consider it NWF's best film. For me it's between Valhalla Rising & Only God Forgives.

I'd have to go with Pusher 2, and Valhalla Rising.

I haven't seen the Pusher trilogy yet. Does anybody know if it's available to rent/stream online anywhere?

This I thought was pretty terrible. It felt like it was trying to be a David Lynch film and failed mightily at that. The only thing that even sticks in my mind about this vapid movie is were we supposed to believe that Keanu's character was raping and murdering that 13 year old runaway he was talking about earlier in the movie?

Re: The Neon Demon (Nicolas Winding Refn, 2016)

It was way more Cronenberg, never even starts approaching Lynchian, but even with that was maybe Maps to the Stars Cronenberg at best.

...actually now that I think about it, those two movies are really similar.

I still love OGF as well - ton of things nobody catches on the first view (and I mean a ton) yeah I know "You caught all of it but still didn't like it" but here's the thing....you didn't.

I love the conversations his films generate. The avenging silence is up next for him - sounds pretty interesting.

I recently watched and didn't care for the film. Cheap Lynch. Sorry Rich....I didn't detect Cronenberg in the film. What are your thoughts that the film was more Cronenberg that Lynch? I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks! :)

Re: The Neon Demon (Nicolas Winding Refn, 2016)

Body horror, metamorphosis themes, straight forward narrative, and standard horror traits all reminded me of Cronenberg. Lynch movies generally linger to establish a mood or get you in a proper head space, he also tends to envision a world of stark contrasts (the happy go lucky world vs dark underbelly) and existentialism.

Neon Demon was far more straight forward, offered none of that and only really went weird at the end with essentially witchcraft.

But that's imo at least, Neon Demon was heavy handed yet shallow but looked nice so it kind of seems like a disservice to either of those directors. I like Refn, but none of his movies really stick with me.
