It switched to the dollar theater the second week and it's already gone from there, so it's a safe bet no one saw this.

Holy shit. Yeah, $60 million budget, under $8 million domestically.

I actually saw this opening day and I didn't think it was as quite bad as the reviews I've read are saying it is. It wasn't great, and I probably wouldn't watch it again, but, while it wasn't very funny, I did think it was fairly entertaining for what it was. Definitely about 15 minutes longer than it needed to be though.

Recut, PG-13 version coming soon!

http://www.avclub.com/article/mortde...ving-mu-217001

There’s no word on what has been cut from the film to make it more palatable for family audiences, but here’s a list of the most likely items censored for your enjoyment:
  • Every utterance of “fuck”
  • Two scenes of brief male nudity
  • Gwyneth Paltrow’s full penetration sex scene (no body double)
  • Scene where Depp angrily explains how Mortdecai is about ethics in gaming journalism
  • Extraneous closing-credits collection of dick pics from the production
  • 17 different puns based on the British slang “cheeky monkey”
  • The full-length feature Mortdecai

You’ll have the chance to see for yourself on May 5 what was removed. Not because that’s the day the film is released for download, but because that’s how long it will take Johnny Depp to personally deliver all 14 of the pre-ordered copies of Mortdecai to the CIA Black Ops locations that ordered them.

I'm more angry that they got rid of the video game ethics bit, that was easily the best. The Paltrow penetration you could tell she was faking it and the dick pics during the credits were meh. But it's a PG-13 version I'll never see.

Gwyneth Paltrow's what?! How the hell did the movie not get an NC-17 if there was a scene like that?

Got the Blu-ray for review and holy hell is it bad. Not offensively bad, I'll reserve that for Muck, but bad nonetheless. Lifeless from the start, none of the so-called jokes landed and the plot is just dumb (which would be fine but it was strung out too much). The cast is wasted especially Jeff Goldblum who was more or less a cameo appearance and Depp was being Depp of late.

I'm still trying to figure out how from this script this even got greenlit.

I dunno, as much as I'd like to hate on this movie along with everybody else, it didn't strike me as particularly terrible. Outside of the intro it was quite watchable and passably entertaining

(In other words, if you weren't already ignoring my opinion on movies, now would be a good time to start. Though I imagine defending both this and the Cobbler means I need to turn in my movie watching card to begin with.)

Anatomy of a flop: How a horribly misguided movie like Mortdecai made it into theaters

The Sopranos "joke" at the end of that (courtesy of Mortdecai) was so fucking stupid and lazy that I punched the monitor.

Very interesting read and shouldn't have been surprising to know how it got made being a passion project for Depp.

Missed that part, thanks for making me go back to the article to read that. I don't know who I hate more right now, you or me.

It looks like this, Paul Blart 2, and Hot Pursuit will be competing at next year's Raspberry Awards.

I doubt Hot Pursuit will be remembered come razzies season. It doesn't appear to be exceptional bad, just not good.

Have you read the reviews? Sounds like it's much more than just not good.

All I've really gathered from the reviews I've read of it is that it's unfunny, and that the upcoming Spy is very funny.

Quote: That review pretty much sums up Depp's career. Might as well cut & paste.

Depp's best role - and I'm not being sarcastic - was his incognito role in 21 Jump Street.
Not Donnie Brasco? That was one of his very, very few roles where he doesn't play himself.
