Only thing I know for sure is that at no point does Gwyneth Paltrow eat canned cheese in this movie. But she does smoke crack.

So when is Hollywood going to cut off the $20 million man.

This look absolutely horrible....and I think it is time that Johnny Depp takes a long break or retires.

What he needs is to work with a Terry Gillam or Jim Jarmusch again who tells him "that works, that doesn't."

Saw it, and thought it was outstanding and one of the best films of the past 12 months.
Edit: Wrong thread, sorry.

Haven't seen it. Wanted to, but now that the reviews come out I'm kind of pissed that someone allowed something like this to even get made.

They made A Good Day to Die Hard and Transformers: Age of Extinction into massive hits. My dreams of there being a Midnight in Paris-like intellectual oasis are dashed

From The New York Times:
Quote:
In sharp contrast, “Mortdecai,” a $60 million action comedy starring Johnny Depp, flopped badly with ticket sales of $4.1 million — the second time in two weeks that an amply budgeted film has been flatly rejected by the marketplace. (Last weekend it was “Blackhat,” which cost $70 million to make and took in $3.9 million over its first three days.) “Mortdecai,” which extends a losing streak for Mr. Depp, was co-financed by Lionsgate and OddLot Entertainment.
Terrible reviews, a problematic title, viewer fatigue with Mr. Depp’s oddball characters and plain disinterest in the goofy art-dealer-caper premise were cited by box-office analysts on Sunday as possible explanations. Lionsgate had no comment.

That review pretty much sums up Depp's career. Might as well cut & paste.
Depp's best role - and I'm not being sarcastic - was his incognito role in 21 Jump Street.

My problem with Depp has been that when I an watching one of his films, I always see him as Johnny Depp playing ________. He never fully immerses himself in a role for me enough to forget that it is Johnny Depp.

Depp is capable of solid work, but his parade of quirky shtick has worn out it's welcome. I also find him insufferable in interviews.

I keep thinking he's going to drop dead when I see his interviews, like there is something actually wrong with him.

Wasn't there a video of him at an awards thing and he was fucking up his words in trying to congratulate the guy getting the award? Seem like he was fucked up during that...

- Compared to the mustachioed gurning going on here, Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow was a study in bleak Bergmanesque understatement.
- This wilfully terrible film marks a significant juncture in Johnny Depp's peculiar career. It is, to him, as the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was to the Balkan League.
- Even devoted fans who stuck with Depp's Jack Sparrow shtick through thick and thin will find his supposedly madcap adventures in Mortdecai buttock-clenchingly bad.
