Re: What will be Marvel's First Movie Bomb?

I doubt Punisher will get any movies. He will probably just be in the Netflix series with Daredevil.

I also doubt Wesley Snipes will actually be cast as Blade again. As I said in the Blade 4 thread Marvel has rebooted every single franchise they have gotten back. Hulk, Daredevil, Punisher, Spider-Man, etc all got rebooted for the MCU. There's no reason to believe that Blade would be the one exception to this, and so Blade will almost certainly be rebooted as well.

Another thing is that Wesley Snipes is just too old. He is in his mid 50s, and Marvel wants their actors to sign multi-movie contracts. How many more times could Snipes actually play Blade at his age?

If Snipes does come back, it will likely just be a minor role or easter egg cameo. Similar to how Lou Ferrigno had an easter egg cameo in the Incredible Hulk or how John Wesley Shipp has a minor role as Barry Allen's father in the CW Flash TV series.

Re: What will be Marvel's First Movie Bomb?

You never know. I don't think that characters like Daredevil and The Punisher will get their own solo films but I could see them popping up in a different character's film sometime.

As far as Snipes and Blade the biggest thing working against him playing the character in my opinion is his age. He's going to be fifty-three so if they plan to bring him back it should happen soon. He still looks really good at his age though. Aside from that like I mentioned I think the character is different from other reboots because the Blade films were decent for the most part. The characters Marvel Studios have rebooted all had weaker films and it was best to start over.

I can see where Marvel could possibly make a choice w/ keeping him and not technically keeping the old films as continuity but still using him as well. That'd be cool.
He was too method for the COMEDY actors cast in the roles for that movie. The director didn't know how to handle him, and since comedians love to poke fun, most of the cast didn't take Snipes seriously. Granted you can be a method actor and not be an asshole, but I have to say that Snipes WAS Blade. He put in some serious work to make that character real, and as a fan of the comic those first two movies were amazing.

Agreed that the Blade movies not sucking would help his case. Personally, I'd love to see him back as the character in a supporting role either in the movies or one of the TV shows.

The beauty is also they have options if an actor decides to not renew their contact and Marvel still wants to keep that specific franchise going, e.g. Captain America.

Exactly. You can really tell that a lot of thought has gone into crafting the MCU and it isn't just thrown together. They clearly have plans and some back up ideas in the works. Sebastian Shaw signed on for nine films and has only done two thus far which leaves him pretty open to being the Bucky Captain America at some point. Especially considering it sounds like Evans may leave the role of Rogers at some point.

I have made the mistake before too, so don't feel bad. Shaw and Stan are pretty similar in name.

Staying in your trailer, smoking weed and playing video games all day with your pals, and not setting foot on set unless you ABSOLUTELY had to be facing the camera is "method" for the role of Blade? The complaints about Snipes' "method acting" came from more than just the "comedians" and the director.

You might have been thinking of the Marvel character Sebastian Shaw, but Fox has the rights to him.

IT'S LIKE YOU'RE IN MY HEAD!!!

Just leave 'Ghost Pimp' out of the movie...

I never liked how the GR movies stole Danny Ketch's look and it just became the default look for GR. Granted yeah leather jacket, and flaming skull is hard to reinvent but the spiked gauntlets and shoulders were Danny Ketch. The newest GR drives a car?...WTH Marvel!

Is the new GR even a good character?

I have no idea, I haven't been buying comics in the last three years. But I can see that changing soon, I'm finally working full time.

BUMP

Re-reading this thread is funny. 20 films later and stronger than ever. It will be interesting to see where Captain Marvel lands, as presale tickets are at the 3rd highest for the MCU.

Wasn’t the second Thor movie a bomb? Certainly it underperformed. What qualifies something as a bomb exactly?

Bomb or not it was interesting to see. Marvel recognized they need to take a different approach to the character, and they did. They are dexterous.

Thor 2, despite the negative reviews and fanboy hoopla, still did really well. It bombed in the sense that it did t gross over a billion dollars worldwide.

Yeah, what would make a Marvel movie qualify as a bomb?

There have been 7 movies that have grossed under $250 million domestically, 4 of which were under $200. I would say for a Marvel movie, anything under $200 million domestically is a flop. Under $250 could also be thought of as a flop for any future Marvel movies.

Re: What will be Marvel's First Movie Bomb?

I still think very unknown properties might still gross less than $250m domestically, especially if it’s an introduction film with little star power. As much as we love Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, he wasn’t getting buts in seats. The second film improved at the box office, though not to the level of other MCU sequels I’d still consider that very successful.
