Okay, explain it then. I don't operate at 100%.

Sorry, I blocked that movie out - it was his return to sci-fi after an extended hiatus Horrible self referential bullshit having a large THE FAMILY billboard in Times Square in Lucy.

#1 with 44 Million, beating Hercules at $29 Million.

This HAS to be a wake up call to studios. If Scarlet can open a movie like this on her own, there needs to be a Black Widow film now, as well as putting the heat on Wonder Woman.

I saw it and thought it was great, strange, but great.

Saw it last night and enjoyed it. Very weird film and the premise was obviously way over the top but it was fun to watch. Scarlett Johansson was great in it. I can see why some people might not like this as it is pretty out there but I think if you just sit back and watch it for what it is and not overthink it it's an enjoyable film.

THIS is how you market a film. I remember watching the trailer in front of Winter Soldier and everyone literally creamed and crapped themselves when the first trailer hit. It was great.

I also think that this has now opened up the possibility to a Black Widow standalone flick. Now if they can get Luc Besson to direct it that would be awesome.

No, I think if any stand alone Marvel flick calls for Whedon is Black Widow. He handles strong female characters better than Besson IMO.

I guess we're never going to get that film on BD here?

If I had to choose between a female led film Besson or Whedon... I'd probably go Besson. Hell, Matilda was an interesting female character too.

Also a Lisa Simpson dropping the mic gif would be more appropriate now.

Re: Lucy (Besson, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

I'd be more on board with Besson if he wasn't making mediocre stuff the last 15 years and still riding on his success from ages ago.

That said, despite my negative feelings on this movie i'm impressed this made as much as it did this weekend. I'm still not really sold that Black Widow would be interesting enough to carry a movie alone without a lot of cameos and supporting heroes though.

Re: Lucy (Besson, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

I was very impressed.

Besson took the material that he's been making under Europa for fifteen years, and made it fresh again.

I thought the nature and historical footage intercutting was great. The images of the drug working at a cellular level. Moving through time and space. All very good.

I was a little let down that there was no epic "for Matilda" type moment.

I can also appreciate that the climax pulled away from violence. There's always a time and place for it. But cinematic violence continues to bore me more and more. If we're just following some unidentifiable characters around through an un-engaging plot, what's the point?

I enjoyed a lot of the stilted sci-fi mumbo jumbo. It reminded me of watching an episode of Futurama.

That's all I got.

Re: Lucy (Besson, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

I think a major reason for why this film did so well is that it looked different. Audiences are finally tiring of the same old crap studios are putting out, as this tepid summer box office has proven, so films that aren't derivative, like Lucy and (as far as marketing went) Godzilla, excited moviegoers more than the typical crop.

In retrospect and maybe it'll be in a sequel but
Spoiler:
where was the substance synthesized? How was Richard involved and how was Oldboy connected to the drugs? What was the point of origin?

These aren't even complaints just questions.

Hrmmm.

Very true.

I'm fine where we left off but valid questioning.

Spoiler:
I don't think the manufacturing mattered. If a sequel goes there, I picture a gross warehouse with a bunch of aborted fetuses and sex slaves.

Richard was just delivering it. It doesn't matter. He was a throw-away courier for criminals.

I did expect 'Oldboy' to have some knowledge of the drug, and possibly be a user. But I was pleasantly surprised that the movie didn't go there or get too convoluted with all of this stuff.

You're right. Turns out it isn't a good BD either. Alas.

So there's no issue with subtitles? And some visual problems?
