EW gave it a B+. http://ew.com/movies/2017/12/12/star...t-jedi-review/
For comparison, that reviewer gave Max Max:Fury Road a B.

B+ sounds about right as that’s what I sort of expect. It’s probably better then The Force Awakens because it’s more focused on certain characters and has alittle more depth, but there’s always hiccups in any sequel. Empire Strikes Back is the exception, not the rule. Hence why it’s a classic.

I can’t wait for Thursday to see this. I pretty much have avoided reading anything (including this thread) to go in as fresh as possible. I watched Chris Stuckmann’s review on YouTube but only because he was very vague and didn’t let anything slip. Glad to be seeing all the positive reviews floating around so far.

Lucas has seen the movie. His rep said in a statement that he thought it was "beautifully made". I think his basic beef with TFA was that it was unoriginal, so I wonder what he thought of the plot this time.
I'm in the minority, but I don't think it ruins the experience for me. If the novelization were on sale I would have bought and read it already. I knew the entire plot to TFA nearly a year before release. It just helps temper the expectations a bit. RotS was the one I tried going cold turkey with spoiler-wise and I ended up disliking it the most. Star Wars is like an addiction and I've always wanted to get my fix as soon as possibly. Not proud of my lack of willpower, but it is what it is.

I'm not even going to get into the argument about whether Daisy Ridley is attractive or not (she is) because it's sexist and beside the point.
But my real question is for the people that have managed to see this: I don't want spoilers, but where do I need to set my expectations?
thanks

I go in thinking it will be good, (better then the Prequels but not as great as the Originals), and don't expect it to be Empire Strikes Back level. It is getting a lot of positive reviews, so I think it will be a good/great/entertaining SW movie, which will have some memorable moments and a few hiccup moments. Everyone since ESB has been like that in one way or another, it's just depends on whether there are more memorable or hiccup moments?

Use that as you will.

I see a lot of "I'm seeing it, but I'm not going to like it." Comments now

Wouldn't be surprised if some people started claiming it was racist as well.
Who said that?

The family is ready, tonight at 9:30PM. We decided on skipping 3D and IMAX3D this time. TFA & Rogue were not enjoyable in theses formats, we liked them better standard.

I was scolling through the reviewers who didn't like it and most of them didn't like TFA either. TFA was at 93% Fresh, so I think if you liked TFA, you will like this movie, if you didn't like TFA, you may not like this either.

On another board, roughly 7/10 of those who have seen it are pretty disappointed and perplexed. I'm tempering my expectations.

Tempering expectations is important. I also think that's different from what kind of an experience we're looking to have. Hopefully, it's a fun one. Look, stories go in all sorts of directions, characters make choices we wish wouldn't happen, and the way we want things to go isn't always the way things go. If the characters make choices in character and in the moment, then it works. If they do what's convenient for a certain story to be told, it's unfortunate, hopefully even fixable, but I can't spend energy wishing and hoping a story goes exactly the way I "need" it to or for things to pay off 100%. I have enough real world problems to handle.
It's Star Wars. Come for the fun, stay for the philosophy, and thank goodness there will always be another Star Wars movie down the road.

Yeah, I've been hearing more realistic reviews now. The common negatives seem to be: too long, middle section drags, story not so great. Anyway, I've bought my tickets for Sunday evening.

How long is the actual movie, not including the long end credits? I've seen 2 hours, 32 minutes (total run time, meaning the movie itself is about 2 hours, 24 minutes).
In the Rolling Stone review, Travers said it is 2 hours, 36 minutes.
