I still got my tickets, though. I feel bad for those that have to sit in ticket queues like a fucking concert. Fuck that. My neighborhood theaters have almost round the clock showings and reserved seating for days in advance. Seeing it Saturday night the 16th of Dec.

Trailer looks really good by Star Wars standards, and visually, the special effects look amazing.

As far as getting me to go see it, I don't know.
I like the way the actor portrays Kylo Ren. It just feels like more of the same at this point.

My local theater only has 4 showings listed on Thursday, and those aren't even full. I imagine that many more showtimes will be added in the days/weeks leading up to Dec 15th, so I'm in no rush to get tickets now

Don't worry, they always add shows to my Multiplexes the week before the Premiere. I think they do this on purpose to create buzz, "All Star Wars movies are sold out!!!" I remember pretty much every show was sold out for The Force Awakens in my area a week before, and then they added a bunch of shows during the week and it was easy to get tickets for Friday or Saturday Night. Although the Midnight shows are always sold out on Thursday.

There are no midnight shows on Thursday. They start them at 7PM and will run it as many times as they can from that point forward until 11PM or Midnight. They will run it many more times than just the 4 that are currently listed. I am 100% sure that I can secure a Thursday night ticket about a week before release.

yeah, he already tried to turn her in TFA and it didn't work. Although maybe Snoke will try to turn her by dangling information about the family that she was waiting for on Jakku.

No way Rey turns to the dark side unless its a fake out and I thought redemption of Kylo Ren was off the table because JJ Abrams said that him killing Han was supposed to be the "yup, kylo has made his choice" moment.

Thinking waaaay outside the box: It appears that Kylo's last act to "turn bad" is taking out Leia's ship... maybe even sacrificing himself in the process?

Kate Kid III: Rey ditches Luke as a teacher and goes to Kylo for training.

Then of course Luke sacrifices himself to save Rey and in Ep9, Kylo redeems himself by killing Snoke.
Kylo killed one of the most beloved characters in film history. Even if the filmmakers want his character to “redeem” himself there’s no way the audience will buy into it.

One thing I've learned about Abrams is that he's not above outright lying to keep a secret. With Kylo, the character is obviously still angsty and conflicted. He basically asks for an unknowing Han's blessing so he can murder him, then appears to be on the edge of tears over taking out his mother's ship. This guy has clearly never been "all in" with the Darkside.

I still feel they might pull the "it's all an elaborate plot to bring down Snoke" twist... with Han's death being a necessary sacrifice for Kylo to gain his complete trust and learn all his secrets. Kylo's monologue to Vader's helmet about finishing what his grandfather started could easily be a reference to destroying the Sith. Not sure the fans would accept that he simply did it for the greater good... especially with all the other cold-blooded shit the character pulled (helping to destroying the new Jedi, ordering the execution of a bunch of villagers...), but I have a nagging suspicion the story could be heading in that direction.

Well if you watch the entire series from I-VI Vader killed a beloved character in Kenobi. Only problem is that I don't think anyone bought Vader's redemption in Jedi. Kylo's redemption would have to be in the form of his death, there is no way around that.

^^ Kenobi wasn't beloved. He had about 30 minutes of screen time before he was offed. We know he had good intentions and we know we should be rooting for him over Vader... but not beloved.

Everyone is stating their theory so eventually, after the release, someone can post "nailed it."

I'll choose to wait until I can sit back and enjoy the movie unfold before me.

I think if they do it right, they can redeem Kylo Ren while the audience is still on board with it. I honestly think they need to have him do something good in this movie (possibly save Rey) and then the 3rd movie he can earn back Luke/Rey's trust to take on Snoke in the final battle?

I say this because Adam Driver is SO much better then Hayden Christenson so they have some leeway with his character. You can blame Lucas's direction, or Christenson's acting, but I never gave a shit about the guy the second he came on screen in Episode 2. Driver can sort of pull off that dual character (being as an asshole, yet still sort of likeable), so they can bring him back without alienating the audience.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (12/15/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

^^ I agree that Driver is much, much better than Christiansen but, IMO, once Kylo killed Han the ship immediately sailed on any sort of Redemtpion for him. I don’t think there’s anything Kylo can do (even saving Rey’s life or sacrificing himself) to earn back the trust of the audience.

And if there’s no audience buy-in it’ll be a completely hollow redemption.

Just my opinion. Plus, let’s hope the filmmakers decide to make their own mark on this series without beating the same drum from the earlier films. I’ll reluctantly accept TFA’s reasons for being so similar to the original but there’s no reason not to go in their own direction now.

Hell, after seeing the trailers for TLJ I’m already worried it’s going to mirror Empire too much.

Kylo killing a father that wasn't there.... it would be a bigger deal if he killed Leia. There's a small bit of wiggle room for redemption of killing Han.

Hey, if we can forgive Shaw for killing Han, why can't we forgive Ren?

Would make sense if this saga is about following the Skywalker lineage... as far as we know so far, Kylo's the only Skywalker of his generation
