Heads up people.
Just announced on Roger's Facebook page. The movie will be shown this Sunday at 9et on CNN.
Set your DVRs. If you don't have cable, then tough shit.
One of the best movies from last year, absolutely 100% worth watching if you were a fan of Roger.

Actually it was an incomplete sentence. Should have said, then tough shit until February 17th when the Blu Ray and DVD comes out.
It's a great movie, but not everyone needs to own the disc and I can't see people wanting to watch this over and over. That's why I bumped this to give a headsup about the TV premiere.
Also, the movie is rated R. There are several F Bombs dropped in some of the interview footage and some brief nudity from the footage of the 1970 movie Beyond the Valley of the Dolls which Roger co-wrote and was rated X. I wonder if CNN will make some minor edits to the documentary when it airs.

Yup, there's that. I think there was also some brief nudity during the Russ Meyer segments too.

There were a few behind the scenes clips IIRC where Gene dropped a few F bombs during the taping of At the Movies/Siskel and Ebert.
And as I said, there is a little nudity from the footage of Roger's movie that he co-wrote. Even if CNN censors some of those, it's not going to hurt the integrity of the film.

I'm surprised to hear Life Itself got an R-rating for a couple of cusses in an interview and some cheeky clips from a 40 year old movie. Given how much Roger used to rail against the "flywheels" at the MPAA, I wonder if this was their idea of a final "fuck you" to him.

Will this make its way to netflix in the near future? I havent seen it yet, and that would be the easiest way to see it.

Weirdly enough, teared up a bit towards the end of the documentary, but overall, a solid look at the life and times of Roger Ebert. Worth watching.

Saw the cnn airing tonight. Decent doc. They could've delved into so much more stuff from his career. Kinda odd that Richard Roeper wasn't even mentioned, not even once, but then again I'm glad. He's a fucking assclown.
Edit: CNN edited the movie by 23 minutes to make way for commercials. And yet they played it twice consecutively from 9 pm - 1am. Fuck them.

Just wonderful. I grew up watching At the Movies and Roger was my favorite film critic. This film reminds of just how much I miss his reviews.

So 23 minutes of footage was missing or left out completely?
Great documentary though I don't think they mentioned anything about Siskel and Ebert becoming syndicated and they were no longer on PBS with Michael Medved and Jeffery Lyons replacing them.

. I disagreed with Ebert frequently, but he was never less than intelligent and entertaining, and for someone who loved cinema or film criticism, he was a genuine treasure, willing to see anything and everything, and open me up to all kind of interesting films I'd never have seen otherwise and interesting perspectives an analysis. He's probably the reason many of us are on a forum like this.

Bump
For those who still haven't seen this yet, it was posted on Netflix today (the uncut R rated version)
So if you didn't buy the BD, watch it on CNN, here's your chance to finally catch this.

Watched last night. First hour was very dry. It picked up a bit with Siskel, but overall I thought it was pretty boring.

I miss Ebert on those Post Oscar (Evening at the Oscars?) shows where he would give his analysis on the winners and losers.
